Shows by Mosaic 2013 headliners Joss Stone, Esperanza Spalding may have been sold out. But not to fret, there’s still much reason to catch the annual music festival this March.
Just in time for International Women’s Day on March 8, we shine the spotlight on these five stellar female musicians.
Whether you’ve a taste for the experimental, a liking for alternative folk or a preference for jazz, be won over by these music acts at the Esplanade.
Kaki King
To strike out a niche of your own is no mean feat, especially in a genre still dominated by male artistes. But Kaki King has done so and with much aplomb; her deft fingerstyle guitar playing has landed her on Rolling Stone magazine’s 2006 “New Guitar Gods” list. King’s 2012 all-instrumental album Glow returns to her solo guitar roots. With the strumming of this gifted guitarist, you’ll find that there’s truly no need for vocals at King’s first concert in town.

Julia Stone
The other Stone in the Mosaic 2013 line-up is one half of brother-sister act Angus and Julia Stone. Music truly runs in the family: their parents performed as a folk duo before the two siblings were born. Catch Stone’s smoky, light as a feather crooning as she performs tracks from her latest album By the Horns and older tracks too.

The Impatient Sisters
Originally from Kuantan, Malaysia, be charmed by these three singing sisters. They’re known to include the twinkling of the xylophone alongside guitar strumming and even the kazoo in their dreamy folk-pop tracks.

My Brightest Diamond
Singer-songwriter Shara Worden delivers an eclectic and experimental mix of tunes for My Brightest Diamond (she heads the group), featuring tunes inspired by pop, rock, folk, cabaret, chamber music and even opera.

Gretchen Parlato
A lover of jazzy tunes? Then Gretchen Parlato’s show ought to be your pick for the Mosaic festival this year. The American songstress garnered a slew of Jazz awards in the States and internationally and has also lent her vocals to over to tracks by Esperanza Spalding, Terri Lyne Carrington.
