On Thursday, August 18 at Zouk, some of Singapore’s top music acts will get together in the spirit of Fred Perry to perform at the fourth Subculture night.
The special Fred’s Punch – a special cocktail concocted by 42BELOW for Fred Perry – will also be back, the sounds will be provided by Cheating Sons, The Pinholes, Vanessa Fernandez with your favourite indie-disco-poppers Poptart – back at Zouk for the first time since 2006.
Cheating Sons (pictured above) describe themselves as “super, f—ing awesome”; come check out their nostalgic rock ‘n’ roll sound at Subculture and you’ll believe the hype.
Mixing up UK bands and a bit of old Singapore sound like The Quests, four-member band The Pinholes (pictured above) make more noise than you’d believe possible for only four people. Said to be an “acquired taste”, get your first wiff at Subculture.
Considered one of Singapore’s most successful exports, Vanessa Fernandez (pictured above) has been performing for over 10 years and has taken her special blend of hip-hop, electronica and soul to the Giles Peterson Worldwide Festival 2011 in Sete, France. Don’t miss her gig on August 18 at Zouk.
Mixing it up and keeping the crowd jumping, Poptart – DJs Weelikeme, Jah and Jinmart – like to mix and mash everything from pop and punk to alternative, rock and Britpop. Sure to keep the Subculture party going into the wee small hours, Poptart are worth catching on their own.
On top of all the awesome music, the Subculture Fanzine returns to Singapore. This underground cult-zine will have a local vibe and feature the latest international news and information on Subculture’s global acts, Singapore gigs and listings and a super-cool fold-out poster. Grab a copy from Zouk before you stumble on home.
Fred Perry Subculture night will be held on Thursday, August 18, at Zouk, 17 Jiak Kim Street. Priority entry will be given to those wearing Fred Perry gear and you can register for the guestlist at www.facebook.com/fredperrysg. Club rules apply.
