Among the C-drama scene stealers that many of us are currently obsessed with, Chen Zheyuan is known among his fans to be charming and capable of playing his characters convincingly. 

Since his acting debut in 2017, the 29-year-old actor has garnered widespread popularity, and devoted fans love his natural acting style that doesn’t involve the need for any exaggerated performances. His versatility in acting has also landed him roles ranging from the classic boy-next-door to complex, troubled youth. 

His most recent project is the historical drama Royal Betrothal, which debuted in late July 2026 and features Chen opposite Wu Jinyan of Yanxi Palace (2018) fame. In this 32-episode series, Wu plays Meng Tinghui, an intelligent and brave orphan who clears the imperial examinations and meets the newly crowned emperor, Ying Gua (played by Chen).

Forming an alliance to uncover corruption and weed out improper imperial officials, the duo work side-by-side to bring justice to the people. As they navigate this shared journey together, a romance gradually blossoms, leading to a love story.

Hidden Love (2023)

This love story revolves around Sang Zhi (Zhao Lusi) and her crush Duan Jiaxu (Chen) who regularly comes over to her house to play with her elder brother. Just like how most of us lose contact with our childhood friends over time, Sang and Duan are no different. Later, they meet again when Sang is in the city where Duan lives, and their feelings are rekindled and deepened over time.

In this coming-of-age series, Chen plays Zhou Siyue, a handsome scholar who looks unapproachable and difficult. Xu Mengjie plays Ding Xian who’s known for her fierce determination in life. The two meet in school and become seatmates. Despite having a rough start, they eventually fall in love and become lifelong partners.

Mr. Bad (2022)

Imagine summoning characters from your own novel and transporting them into the real world. That’s what happened to the young and aspiring writer, Nan Xing (Shen Yue) who unintentionally calls upon the cunning villain from her novel. She’s greeted by Xiao Wu Di (Chen), a narcissistic character from her book. Xiao creates havoc in Nan’s life, causing constant battles between them but Xiao ultimately falls in love with Nan’s warm personality.

The Princess and the Werewolf (2023)

After waking up one day, Princess Qi Pa (Wu Xuan Yi) finds herself in another world where the tribe is filled with members that have beast-like abilities. What’s even more shocking is that she must now marry the tribe’s king, Kui Mu Lang (Chen). Naturally, she’s scared of Kui because of his part-human, part-beast appearance. What she doesn’t know is that Kui leads a double life, turning into a dashing chap named Li Xiong in the day. Qi finds herself drawn to Li but is terrified of the monstrous-looking Kui, causing her to be torn between staying or escaping the strange world.
