Orchard Road may be best known for its international luxury names, but tucked along the shopping belt is Design Orchard – a space dedicated to showcasing Singapore’s own creative talent. This year, it’s also the site of HOMEGROWN, a campaign by local design collective DORS that celebrates SG60 through fashion, lifestyle, and food.

Instead of just window-shopping the latest global arrivals, visitors can explore a curated edit of Singaporean labels that reinterpret national identity through design, from batik dresses to kaya biscuits. Each brand on display offers a glimpse of how local creativity continues to evolve, 60 years on.

Here are some of the highlights from the SG60 line-up.

Triologie

Known for its storytelling through batik, Triologie has produced a line of separates in red-and-white palettes and heritage-inspired prints for SG60. Prices start from around $489 for blouses and go upwards for jumpsuits or statement dresses.

By layering traditional textile craft over modern cuts and print – including that of kopitiams and HDBs – Triologie captures both nostalgia and forward-looking style.

SABRINAGOH

Architecturally-trained designer Sabrina Goh merges sharp, modern lines with Singaporean heritage in her SG60 collection. Standout pieces include the Cora Batik Top ($159), which features Sekar Jagad and Perci Artha batik motifs.

With its flowing silhouette, the blouse transitions effortlessly from work to weekend wear – a clear reflection of Goh’s signature blend of technical precision and contemporary style.

Rare Bird Collection

Rare Bird Collection stands out for its bold, pattern-driven accessories that often reference Peranakan tiles, nature, and cultural motifs.

Heritage-inspired items include bracelets with reversible rosy pink Peranakan floral pendants ($149) and a matching pair of pearl charm earrings ($138) – statement pieces designed to evoke memories of place and time, and perfect for both your next brunch date and celebration dinner.

Shermay’s Singapore Fine Food

Founded by chef and cookbook author Shermay Lee, this brand reinterprets Peranakan heritage for modern kitchens. The SG60 showcase features traditional keropok (from $7.95) alongside sambals, sauces, and curated gift sets.

Each jar is rooted in recipes passed down through generations, serving both as seasoning and as a way of preserving culinary memory.

Everiday Foods

Founded by nutritionist and self-described nomad Ri Rupani, Everiday Foods is built on the idea that comfort food can also be clean and nourishing. Its range runs from kaya spreads (from $3) to house-made granola, cookies, and crackers (from $12), alongside bolder staples like mala chili and sambal ($12).

With a focus on natural ingredients “you can actually pronounce,” the vegan and gluten-free brand taps into both childhood taste memories and the eclectic mix of global flavours that shape Singapore’s food culture today.

Kim’s Duet

Launched by heritage coffee roaster Kim Guan Guan, Kim’s Duet reimagines the kopitiam ritual for modern life. Its single-serve steep coffee and tea bags (from $6.60) deliver the bold, bittersweet notes of Singapore’s traditional brews – minus the hassle and with healthier options like reduced-sugar or low-fat blends.

Beyond convenience, the brand is also a cultural advocate, earning both the ‘Made with Passion’ and Healthier Choice labels while preserving a uniquely Singaporean way of gathering over a cup of kopi or teh.

Temple Candles

Homegrown label Temple Candles translates Singapore’s cultural and botanical richness into fragrance. Its luxury candles and diffusers (from $89) feature notes like Singapore Orchid, Lemongrass & Ginger, and Lime Basil – scents designed to spark memory while elevating everyday living spaces.

Each piece is crafted in Singapore with sustainably sourced oils, vegan-friendly ingredients, and distinctive faceted glass packaging that doubles as decor.

Singlapa

Founded by two artist-mothers in Singapore, Singlapa transforms hand-painted watercolour art into lifestyle gifts and textiles. The label’s playful yet heritage-rooted motifs – from Peranakan tiles to tropical florals and even spreads of Chinese dim sum – find their way onto everything from greeting cards (from $6.90) to Singapore Skyline Table Runners ($83.90).

Each piece is produced in small batches using sustainable fabrics like Thai silk satin, striking a balance between cultural nostalgia and everyday practicality.

Photo Phactory

Photo Phactory reimagines Singapore’s architectural icons and cultural motifs as everyday objects. Founded by Valley Arora, the brand translates the city’s shophouses, Peranakan tiles, and heritage landmarks into homeware and lifestyle pieces – from batik art coasters ($76) to rowhouse design trays ($136).

Each piece is crafted as a keepsake that blends design with memory, making heritage part of the modern home.

 Kelly Ser Atelier

Kelly Ser, a local artist who transitioned from civil service to full-time creative work, transforms Singapore’s landmarks and heritage architecture into contemporary art and design objects. Her SG60 offerings include silk scarves ($99), bamboo plate sets ($51), and vibrant, printed knot bags ($39).

Through kaleidoscopic colours, tactile textures, and subtle nods to history, her pieces turn everyday objects into storytelling mediums, blending modern aesthetics with cultural identity.

From batik dresses to kaya biscuits, the HOMEGROWN showcase is less about shopping alone and more about storytelling – how design, craft, and even food can carry facets of national identity.

DORS @ Design Orchard is located at 250 Orchard Road, Singapore 238905.
