Let’s talk about sex at this super kawaii art exhibition in Joo Chiat

Think colourful cartoon animals caught in cheekily compromising situations. That’s what Taiwanese artist and illustrator Ikuiku is serving up in her latest Singapore solo show, Ikuiku Love Hotel. 

Running from 24 January to 15 March 2026, the exhibition takes over Heartware Store & Gallery, a gallery-boutique founded by creative agency Kinetic and tucked away in Joo Chiat.

“We first met her during the 2023 Singapore Illustration Arts Festival, and we’ve been fans of her work ever since. She touches on the topic of sexuality in a really interesting way, rendering it as vibrant and cute rather than explicit. To us, that’s a refreshing and compelling approach to talking about the subject,” says Jonathan Gian, co-founder of Heartware Store & Gallery.

He shares that the gallery space will be transformed into a “love hotel”, complete with merchandise ranging from hotel keychains and towels to condom blind boxes. The launch will kick off with an hour-long artist talk with Ikuiku at 2.30pm, followed by a live portrait drawing session at 4pm.

Visitors can also look forward to cheeky risograph prints and zines available for purchase at the exhibition.

“Ikuiku makes art that is extremely cute and very colourful, and also very much about sex. She hopes someday we can discuss sexuality casually like the way we discuss what we will have for breakfast,” says the team at Heartware Store & Gallery.
