KARD’s last goodbye: Why Singapore is the city they’ll never forget

K-pop co-ed group, KARD — comprising BM, J.Seph, Somin and Jiwoo — will be making their final Singapore stop this Sunday, on 27 September, as part of their last world tour. After nearly a decade since debuting as one of the few mixed-gender groups, KARD has stood out as one of the first few to carve out a genuine foothold in an industry that rarely makes room for them. Contracts are expiring, chapters are closing, and yet when you ask them what they’ll remember most about Singapore, the answer isn’t a venue or a milestone.

Why Singapore fans hold a special place in KARD’s hearts

“I think what makes our Singapore fans especially memorable is the sincerity in their eyes,” says Jeon Jiwoo. “There are Singapore fans who travel long distances to support us, whether for schedules in Korea or overseas, and every single one of them looks at us with such bright and earnest eyes. Whenever I see that, I always feel deeply touched and filled with warmth.”

KARD’s journey: From learning moombahton to instinctive performance

The group has changed significantly since their debut days, and if you’ve been following them throughout, you’d see it. Jiwoo reflects on how their early years felt like learning a language — specifically, the moombahton (an electronic dance music genre) and tropical sounds their producer had mapped out for them. “In the early days, it felt like we were learning how to interpret and express genres such as moombahton and tropical music,” she says. “Now, I feel that we are able to experience that music more instinctively and enjoy it much more naturally. The way we express ourselves on stage has become much deeper and more flexible.”

Offstage, the reality of a world tour is far less glamorous. J.Seph is candid about his limits. “I know that I am not naturally someone with exceptional stamina, so whenever I have time to rest, I try to make the most of it,” he says. “On my days off, I usually avoid going out and focus on resting, recovering, and recharging instead.”

What they’re most excited to revisit in Singapore

And when asked about what’s one Singaporean dish or spot he’s excited to revisit? J.Seph has one non-negotiable on his itinerary that’s a pretty common sentiment with many other stars who’ve been here. “Definitely chilli crab,” he says. He first tried it years ago, loved it so much he tried to recreate it at home in Korea, but he admitted he failed. “Somehow, I could never quite capture the same taste and feeling. So during this trip, my goal is to make sure I have chilli crab at least twice before I leave, no matter what.”
