Sentosa is no longer just for weekend thrills.

If you’ve been watching closely, the resort island has been steadily reimagining itself from theme park-slash-beach territory into Singapore’s latest curated playground for refined leisure – with recent highlights including the Singapore Oceanarium, and WEAVE’s lifestyle precinct, home to a growing slate of high-profile retail and dining concepts.

The latest entrant, The Laurus, a Luxury Collection Resort, opened its doors in October 2025, rounding out Sentosa’s growing collection of all-in-one leisure escapes where accommodation, dining, and design converge.

A sophisticated sanctuary

The Laurus marks Singapore’s first The Luxury Collection–branded resort, joining Marriott International’s stable of luxury offerings, which includes the St. Regis Singapore.

Spread across 7,650 square meters within Resorts World Sentosa – and replacing the former Hard Rock Hotel – the 183-suite property blends tropical touches with grand colonial charm.

Interiors are punctuated with open verandas, orchid arrangements – Singapore’s national flower – and curated art by local artists with disabilities, alongside historical pieces from the William Farquhar Collection of Natural History Drawings. Various installations – including stained-glass works and sculptural pieces depicting the Buffy Fish Owl, a bird once native to Singapore’s mangroves and now critically endangered – underscore the hotel’s focus on local storytelling.

Rooms range from deluxe twin suites to a presidential suite with pool views – and no matter the option you pick, all eight types of rooms include freestanding bathtubs, double vanities, and separate living and dining areas, offering couples or families a refined home-away-from-home that privileges space and comfort.

Even the minibar reflects this sense of place, spotlighting local brands such as Singapore-inspired teas from ETTE Tea, a seaweed-flavoured nut exclusive to the hotel from Notter Nuts, and sustainably sourced artisanal chocolates from Mr Bucket Chocolaterie.

Culinary offerings are anchored by specialty dining concept, Laurus Table – a restaurant with a menu of sustainable, regionally-inspired dishes, curated by celebrity consultant chefs.

Making a sustainable statement

Yet, even as The Laurus stakes its claim in Sentosa’s competitive luxury segment, it enters a crowded field – with seven other 5-star hotels operating within Resorts World Sentosa.

Its differentiation, then, lies not in scale or spectacle, but in how convincingly a property positions itself as a destination in its own right. According to Skyscanner’s 2026 Travel Trends report, at a time where 60 per cent of travellers pick a destination based on accommodation alone – hotels are now no longer just places to stay, but increasingly the reason to travel.

For The Laurus, this translates into a destination-led, all-suite model anchored by narrative and sustainability. “The Laurus reflects our ambition to set new benchmarks in luxury hospitality while offering travellers a sanctuary that truly feels like home,” says Ms Lee Shi Ruh, chief executive officer of Resorts World Sentosa.

That sense of considered luxury certainly extends to the operational details – including a smart Guest Room Management System that optimises energy efficiency without compromising comfort, alongside linen and towel reuse programmes, refillable amenities, and filtered tap water in place of bottled alternatives.

Materials from Sentosa’s development – such as felled trees – have also been repurposed into bespoke furniture and servingware, reinforcing a circular approach to design.

And in a final flourish befitting its sensibility, the resort is subtly perfumed with Voyage Céleste, a bespoke scent created by Singapore-based fragrance house Maison21G – an aromatic reminder that at The Laurus, even the air has been thoughtfully curated.

With room rates starting from $630++ per night, The Laurus positions itself firmly in this premium segment, offering a highly polished, if carefully orchestrated, home-away-from-home experience suited to short stays and extended getaways alike.

The Laurus, a Luxury Collection Resort, Singapore is located at 28 Sentosa Gateway, 098139. Find more information here.
