The Singapore footballers everyone’s crushing on right now
With Singapore’s national football team back in the spotlight, it is not just their performance that has people talking. These players are turning heads for more than one reason
By Her World Team -
Singapore’s national football team has often flown under the radar. But, after these past few months, that’s starting to change. Following Gavin Lee’s appointment as head coach by the Football Association of Singapore in November 2025, after stepping in as interim coach earlier that June when Tsutomu Ogura departed, the team has been getting a lot more attention.
With their next match set for 31 March against the Bangladesh national football team at the National Stadium, all eyes will be on the Lions once again. But beyond their performance, let’s be real, some fans will also be keeping an eye on the players themselves.
Sure, the Fandi brothers are a given, but they’re not the only ones worth knowing. If you’re not already familiar with the squad, there are plenty of underrated names that are worth noting. So whether you’re heading down to the game to show your support or just getting to know the team, ahead, we’ve rounded up some of the hottest footballers from Singapore’s national team.
Ilhan Fandi
You can spot Ilhan Fandi from a mile away. With a smile that’s so bright, it’s hard not to miss him. On the pitch, Ilhan primarily plays as a centre-forward (striker), but he is also capable of playing as an attacking midfielder or winger. He made headlines in November 2025, when Singapore went head-to-head against Hong Kong at Kai Tak Stadium, where he netted the winning goal at the 68th minute mark, securing Singapore’s first-ever merit-based qualification for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
Ilhan is the fourth child in the family after Iman Fandi, whom we’re very familiar with as she has graced Her World’s previous covers.
Ikhsan Fandi
The second eldest in the family, Ikhsan Fandi, is often seen pictured alongside his brothers on the pitch. If you’re looking out for him, you’ll often see him playing centre-forward or striker on the field, where he’s scored some of the most amazing goals. Outside of Singapore, Ikhsan also plays for Thai League 1 club BG Pathum United.
Harhys Stewart
Harhys Stewart is definitely one to watch. Of Malay and Welsh descent, he stands out with his sharp features, grey-blue eyes, and lean build. If football was not his path, he could easily pass as a model. On the field, he plays as a versatile midfielder.
Fun fact: he also shares the pitch with his older brother, Ryhan Stewart.
Ryhan Stewart
Speaking of Ryhan Stewart, the Singapore National footballer who plays alongside his younger brother, Harhys Stewart, primarily plays as a right-back (defender). He has a feisty spirit on the team, but he still knows how to make his teammates laugh from time to time. More recently, he tied the knot with his beautiful wife, Hannah Alkaff, in 2025, and has since relocated to Thailand, where he currently plays for Kanchanaburi Power FC.
Glenn Kweh
While many familiar names dominate the conversation, Glenn Kweh often flies under the radar. He usually plays as a winger or forward, and his energy on the pitch is hard to ignore. You will often see him sprinting across the field and putting in the work from start to finish.
Off the pitch, he comes across as more reserved, but you might recognise him from FAS campaigns or from his club appearances with BG Tampines Rovers, where he plays alongside teammate Jacob Mahler.
Jacob Mahler
It is easy to spot Jacob Mahler, thanks to his height and strong presence on the field. Playing as a defensive midfielder or centre-back, he brings both physicality and composure to the game.
Born in Copenhagen to a Danish father and a Singaporean-Chinese mother, Jacob has striking features that would not look out of place in a modelling campaign. He also plays for BG Tampines Rovers in the Singapore Premier League.
Safuwan Baharudin
Having played for the Singapore national team for over 16 years, making his international debut at age 19 on January 17, 2010, Safuwan Baharudin is no stranger to the game. While he’s 34 years old at the time of writing, on the pitch, it seems like nothing is slowing Safuwan down. For the national team, he plays centre-back or defensive midfielder.
Hariss Harun
He’s one of the most seasoned players on the team. Playing as a defensive-midfielder or a centre-back, Hariss Harun captains both Singapore Premier League club Lion City Sailors and the Singapore national team.
He may come across as serious during matches, but off the pitch, he has a more approachable side, especially seen in interviews like his feature with RYOT.
Song Uiyoung
Song Uiyoung often plays the position of the attacking midfielder or central midfielder in the national team. While he was born in South Korea, Song got his citizenship in 2021 after living in the country and playing in the Singapore Premier League since 2012.
Shawal Anuar
Shawal Anuar knows how to score goals. His speed and agility, which come as no surprise when he scored the first goal against Hong Kong last November at the crucial 64th-minute equaliser, before his teammate, Ilhan Fandi, sealed the win with another goal in the 68th minute. The soon-to-be 35-year-old, plays as a forward or winger for the Lion City Sailors and the Singapore national team.
Lionel Tan
You would not want to go up against Lionel Tan on the field. With his height and commanding presence, he is a force to be reckoned with.
He typically plays as a centre-back or right-back and brings strength and stability to the defence. Outside of the national team, he also represents Lion City Sailors in the Singapore Premier League.
