For many Singaporeans, especially our Muslim friends, visiting the Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar is a yearly tradition. Whether it’s to shop for traditional goods, affordable accessories and trinkets, or just to stuff yourself silly, you can bet the multitude of stalls there offer something for everyone. Our only problem with heading down to the bazaar? The endless crowd of people everywhere! It definitely makes getting around the area a pain and intensifies the heat by tenfold.

The organisers of the Geylang Serai Bazaar are making an effort to provide a more crowd-friendly experience this year, with larger dining space and wider walkways – but the bazaar is still going to attract a throng of visitors every day. So if you’re thinking of skipping the crowd altogether, why not opt to support some lesser-known Ramadan Bazaars instead? We’ve listed five such bazaars that Singaporeans are sure to enjoy.

If your favourite part of attending Hari Raya bazaars is the sense of community and togetherness, you’ll love The Grand Souq. Besides the regular food and retail booths present at most bazaars, this event will be hosting live Jemaah prayers, daily spiritual sharing sessions and live music performances. We’d reckon this would be the perfect event for family bonding over the weekend.

When: 31 May – 2 June 2019
Where: Singapore Expo, Hall 6A

Those living in the Northeast, rejoice! The Vintage Ramadan Bazaar will be back for its second run at Kampong Punggol, where local and Malaysian artistes such as Khai Bahar will be performing every weekend. The best part? Supporting the booths here will help to further a great cause, as $50 from the rental cost of each booth will be donated to AIN Society – a community organisation helping disadvantaged families and individuals, as well as adults suffering from chronic illnesses.

When: 3 May – 3 June 2019
Where: Open field next to the carpark (3-5 min walk from Riviera LRT Station)
