Incredible novelty hats in a myriad of patterns and designs; brightly coloured outfits; and plenty of laughter – it was as though we’d stepped into a carnival or themed garden party of sorts.

Instead, it was our annual Her World Golf Challenge, presented by Mercedes and Shiseido at the beautiful Sentosa Golf Club that was inspiring such conviviality and joviality from the participants. With a “Mad Hatters”-inspired theme this year, Her World readers were invited to round up the girlfriends and come in their zaniest head gear – which they did with much gusto. Despite the blazing hot weather, participants gamely donned their hats and posed for pictures.

But after all that initial fun, it was time to get down to business. After all, this was still a golf tournament, and participants were there to pit their skills against one another, all with an eye on the final prize – to come up tops amongst the 120 golfing enthusiasts who signed up for the challenge. Over the next four hours, they made their way across the stunning greens of the golf club, and played with an intensity that could rival the professionals’. Amateur golf event, you say?

After the intense day out in the sun – fueled by drinks sponsors Fiji Water, Sportade, YOU-C1000 and Perrier – participants adjourned back at the clubhouse to the last highlight of the day: a well-deserved dinner and the ever-popular prize giving ceremony at the grand ballroom. Emcee Su-Ann Heng (who’s a pro golfer herself!) kept the participants in high spirits as they tucked into a scrumptious buffet spread while uber talented balloon maker Hayden Chan of Happy Balloons (IG:@happyballoonsg) delighted everyone with his incredible sculptures.

And then it was time for everyone’s favourite part of the evening. This year, winners walked away with more than $22,000 worth of goodies such as Shangri-la Hotel Singapore, TrichoKare, Mizuno and Seiko. The biggest honour of the night, however, went to 44-year-old Intarasoot Potjanart, who came out top amongst all of the players. She walked away with a trophy, a Trichokare voucher worth $478, an Urban Fairway Golf voucher worth $500, a Mercedes-Benz Golf bag worth $400, a Shiseido hamper worth $213, and a Seiko timepiece worth $408.80. The place for first runner-up went to 26-year old Lalana Jittiyaphol while 30-year-old Listar Nguyen came in second runner-up.

Only a few guests walked away with the prizes, but – to lend a cliche – everyone left a winner that night: each participant took home a goodie bag containing a Mizuno golf tee, Wilson towel, Wilson golf balls, Mercedes golf sleeves and Shiseido products, worth more than $150. And with the new friendships forged and a Friday afternoon well-spend with like-minded folks, there was no doubt that this year’s Her World Golf Challenge was yet another resounding success.
