We're all familiar with cocktails, but what about tea-tails? While it may be uncommon, tea-infused cocktails are slowly becoming a popular favourite in the scene for good reason. Teas can add depth and nuance to cocktails, enhancing the overall taste profile, as it infuses unique flavours, aromas, and complexities into your usual tipples. One of such bars in Singapore that does it really well is Mixology Salon.

First conceived in Tokyo, the award-winning cocktail bar has set up its first outpost at the InterContinental at Robertson Quay. Founded by expert mixologist Shuzo Nagumo, this venture has garnered global recognition for its renowned 'tea tails.' This unique notion highlights contemporary mixology methods and the skillful integration of premium Japanese green tea varieties like gyokuro, oolong, and hojicha into meticulously prepared cocktails.

The selection showcases a variety of creative libations, such as the Japanese Tea Espresso Martini. This cocktail presents an innovative take on incorporating tea flavors, featuring exclusive gyokuro-infused Grey Goose vodka, along with matcha, sencha, and vanilla syrup. For those looking for something a little more refreshing, the Sencha Gin & Tonic combines the subtle astringency of Shizuoka Sencha with the rich umami notes of Saga Sencha, infused into Bombay Sapphire gin.

Award-winning mixologist, Adiran Besa, helms Jungle Ballroom, a cocktail haven situated in the new Mondrian Singapore. In contrast to its dark, dreamy interiors, Jungle Ballroom serves up some of the most vibrant librations with a tropical themed menu that transports you from the 'Jungle Canopy' to the 'Understorey'. Remarkable ingredients you’ll encounter along the way include longan, banana leaf, young mango, turmeric, black sesame, ginger and cacao.

Some of our favourite drinks include the Queen of the Jungle, a velvety smooth sipper with herbaceous notes and green walnuts; Neon Ballroom, a light, refreeshig and fruity number made with a blend of white rum, rosemary, mango, lime, rockmelon and champagne; and not to mention, How Doth The Littel Crocodile, a unique tipple with a smoky flavour profile that invites you to make your own garnish in the form of an origami crocodile.

In addition to the regular menu, Adrian and his team are delighted to craft a customised beverage tailored to your individual preferences. They might concoct a cocktail using unique Asian spirits and inventive flavour combinations developed in the mixology lab located behind the bar.

Crafted by Mel John Chavez, Bar Manager (in training), and Bar Supervisor Wong Wee Siong, the third iteration of The Real Art of Drinking series continues the achievements of the previous two menus introduced in 2021 and 2022.

In this edition, the 12-drink menu shifts its focus beyond the confines of its location within the National Gallery Singapore. With a strong commitment to embracing tangible artistic elements from the present era, the new menu pays homage to traditional mediums like Cooking, Architecture, and Dance, as well as contemporary expressions such as Tattoos, Cinema, and Literature. Each cocktail is meticulously concocted to delve into the art form it is associated with, while captivating the senses with its imaginative interpretations.

Some of our favourite drinks from the menu include the Sticky Fingers that's inspired by the famous sticky date pudding, and is served with a sticky date morsel, topped with lush caramel sauce, as well as the Round & Round cocktail, that draws inspiration from the colourful polka dot installations by renowned artist, Yayoi Kusama. The latter is a fruity concoction made with Kyoho Grape topped with a polka dot milk tuile.

Smoke & Mirrors is located at 1 St. Andrew's Road, #06-01 National Gallery Singapore, Singapore 178957. The new menu will be launched on 14 August.
