The first Twelve Cupcakes cupcake I had was their Red Velvet which my sister brought home three weeks ago. It was love at first bite. Needless to say, I was immediately won over.

I’ve had my fair share of cupcakes – from the famous Magnolia Bakery in New York to Sprinkles’ cupcakes which my friend carefully hand carried back from Beverly Hills. To each his own, but the cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery were personally disappointing for me – after reading rave reviews and witnessing the queues first hand, but they were just too sweet for my liking.

But with Twelve Cupcakes, they seem to have perfected both cake and frosting and married them to complement each other harmoniously. The cupcakes are light, fluffy and oh-so-moist, paired with lovely frostings with just the right amount of sweetness.

These scrumptious cupcakes are the fruit of Jaime’s labour. She’s been baking for the last five years and has modified various cupcake recipes to get her cupcakes to where they are today. Daniel, who had a crash course in baking, has been helping out at the shop, baking more than 10,000 cupcakes to date.

When I saw this couple in action at the shop it made my cupcake experience even sweeter. It’s a delight to see that they are really passionate about their cupcakes – and each other.

When I asked Jaime and Daniel what made their cupcakes standout compared to others they mentioned taste, size, texture and that they were freshly baked daily.

Another factor that made a difference for me was that Twelve Cupcakes are handmade with love. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly why but I could feel the effort that had gone into the preparation of the cupcakes and that made me savour it all the more.

The Herworld.com team tried 12 different cupcakes from Twelve Cupcakes and we love that the tastes are true to each flavour without any hint of artificiality. Some of our favourites are the Red Velvet, Lychee, PB (peanut butter) Chocolate and Mudslide.

Twelve Cupcakes creations are baked fresh daily and each cupcake is unique in its own way. The sizes of the cupcakes are just right as you’ll be left satisfied without feeling stuffed.

The next time you have a Twelve Cupcake cupcake, try leaving it out over night, out of the fridge. You might just find it more moist like I did. Just make sure the ants don’t get to it or anyone else for that matter.

These cupcakes are definitely worth the $3 each or $3.50 for the special of the day. Wonder when I can have their daily special Mudslide cupcake that I am currently craving.

Twelve Cupcakes have 30 flavours on their menu which are on rotation basis, so you’ll only find 12 on any given day at the store. Cupcakes start from $3 each. Twelve Cupcakes is located at #B1-60 United Square, Tel: 6256 8130. Visit www.facebook.com/twelvecupcakes for more details.
