We all know how much Singaporeans love food and, when it comes to a buffet, don’t even try to stop us! Japanese cuisine has so many dishes to enjoy, such as sushi, sashimi and shabu shabu, so why not find a Japanese buffet restaurant to indulge in all of these – and much more? Here are eight of the best we’ve feasted through so we can recommend them to you (you’re welcome).

1. Kushi Dining Bar

This restaurant has been around for 10 years and it prides itself on serving ‘authentic premium Japanese food’. The chefs have more than 20 years of experience so you know the food you’re getting has been tried and tested and deemed a success. The spread here is extensive, with signature dishes like lobster soup and buffet items include sashimi, kushiyaki, sushi and tempura. Choose a classic buffet or a premium buffet; there’s also a weekend brunch buffet available here.

2. Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant

There are more than 200 buffet items here, in over 29 categories – no wonder they call it a ‘mega Japanese buffet’. And the best part is, the prices are affordable too. The al fresco area has a gorgeous view of the Orchard landscape so try to bag a seat there if you can. You’ll get sushi, sashimi, teppanyaki, robatayaki, yakitori…and a lot more, including Japanese Western dishes like pasta and pizza. It’s a popular spot so make a reservation if you don’t want to wait when you get there.

3. Kuishin Bo

‘Kuishin Bo’ means ‘food connoisseur’ in Japanese but you don’t have to be an expert to enjoy the culinary delights here. There are more than 100 varieties in this buffet and all-time favourites include tempura prawns, cha soba and udon. Sushi lovers will especially love the wide range of that food here. It’s also famous for its zuwaigani (snow crabs) so don’t miss that. And, if you still have space, park yourself near the beautiful cascading chocolate fountain.

The traditional Japanese decor will charm you the minute you step in here. It’s a must-try for sashimi lovers as it has an extensive spread of that dish. You’ll also get to watch the chefs make sushi so there’s a slight entertainment factor here too. There are lots of other dishes too, such as grilled meats, tempura and noodles. It tends to get very crowded and because of its small size, it’s best to make reservations.

It’s snow crabs are very popular but they also serve specialty grilled items, sushi, sashimi and shabu shabu. 6. Tajimaya

Specialising in Japanese charcoal grill yakiniku, this restaurant gives patrons a fun and interactive dining experience. Grill your meats at your own table, to get them exactly the way you like them. The Eat All You Want Wagyu Buffet gives you more than just beef – there’s also kurobuta pork, tiger prawns, sashimi, seafood and vegetables, to name a few. The outdoor seating area has the added bonus of a view of Sentosa so try to get a table there if you can. But if you choose to dine indoors, don’t worry, the grills are equipped with a high-performance exhaust system, which means you won’t go home smelling of food.

7. Irodori Japanese Restaurant

This restaurant has an a la carte buffet menu and the thing we like best is that the food is prepared on order, which means you’ll get your grub hot and fresh. Even the sashimi is sliced in front of you when you order it. Its signature dishes include Ebi Mentai Mayo (grilled prawn served on mayonnaise) and Beef Shogayaki (beef with ginger sauce unique to local regions throughout Japan), but there’s also a variety of sashimi, sushi et al to devour.

8. Mitsuba Japanese Restaurant

This restaurant’s owner had a plan when he opened Mitsuba – to serve authentic yet inexpensive Japanese meals by going light on the garnishing. With this aim in mind, you have an idea of what you’ll get here before you visit. It serves an a la carte buffet, which has over 130 dishes including sashimi (it’s famous for its thick-cut sashimi), sushi, teppanyaki, maki mono and temaki. There are also regular promotions, such as 15% off your buffet dinner every Monday, on Ladies’ Night. We also love this restaurant because it discourages food wastage – if you order from the a la carte buffet menu and don’t finish all your food, you’ll be charged $10 per 100 grams of food that you waste. So don’t get too greedy ok?
