When it comes to music festivals, most performers swear by the same must-haves: a good setlist, a reliable glam team, and a pre-show ritual to get in the zone. But for Singaporean singer Estelle Fly, there’s one accessory she never takes the stage without—and it’s not what you’d expect.
“It’s definitely my Galaxy Ring,” she tells Her World Singapore with a laugh ahead of her performance at Waterbomb Singapore 2025, the city’s biggest beach and music festival happening this weekend. “It’s been great at showing how my body responds from my heart rate to my recovery. At the same time, it helps me prepare for future shows. And the best part? It looks really great; it blends right into my accessories. So it’s one of those accessories I never thought I’d fall in love with.”
For Estelle, the sleek wearable is equal parts health tracker and style statement—proof that even at a splash-filled festival, the details matter. “It’s like having a tiny coach on my finger,” she adds. “It reminds me that my body is my biggest asset on stage, and taking care of it is just as important as the performance itself.”
A homegrown stage she’ll never forget
Performing at Waterbomb in her home country holds special weight for Estelle. “It means everything,” she says. “Nothing beats being able to perform in front of your home crowd. Singaporeans definitely have high expectations of their own people, so I hope to one day be that pride and joy of the country. I just want to show them that this is me, this is who I am now, and thank you so much for sticking around as I grew into the artist I am today.”
It’s a full-circle moment for the singer, who has steadily built her career as both a performer and content creator. And while the bright lights of a festival stage can sometimes push artists to go louder, flashier, or bigger, Estelle has learned that being true to herself resonates most.
“There’s always pressure to stand out, especially in a festival lineup,” she admits. “But I’ve found that people connect most when you’re authentic and not too polished. I don’t want to chase the noise anymore—I just want to bring my own energy to them.”
Pre-show rituals and festival dreams
That authenticity carries over to the way Estelle preps before every show. While some artists prefer solitude, Estelle’s ritual is all about connection. “We always have this cheer—it’s our way of syncing up and having our energies become one before we hit the spotlight. It feels like we’re moving in tandem and making sure that we have each other’s backs.”
And if she could share that stage energy with anyone at Waterbomb, her dream collab would be with none other than Thai rap star MILLI. “I watched her live in Thailand recently, and she’s just this big ball of energy. She makes everyone want to sing and dance along. I think she would bring such a wild and electric vibe if I ever got the chance to perform with her at Waterbomb.”
The personal side of Estelle Fly
Off-stage, Estelle is just as passionate, though her obsessions are delightfully different from what fans might expect. “Perfumes—I love scents,” she confesses. “Every time I pass by a duty-free store at the airport, I end up exploring the shelves. There’s something so fascinating about a scent tied to a memory or a person. I’m still on a quest to find that one fragrance that best represents me. When people smell it, they’ll think: ‘That’s Estelle.’”
Her curiosity doesn’t stop there. In another life, she sees herself thriving in two very different worlds: voice acting and floristry. “I actually do a fair bit of voice acting in my content, and I’d love to one day lend my voice to a game because I grew up as a gamer. And when I’m older, I’d like to open a flower shop with my mum, because she used to run one. I love the idea of carrying that on together.”
Even on her days off, Estelle admits she doesn’t slow down completely. “I have a bad habit of feeling guilty when I rest, but I try to use that time to take care of my body and recharge for my next performance. Otherwise, I’m creating new things, writing demos, or experimenting with content. I get bored easily, so I like to keep moving.”
A new era of music
Fans can also look forward to new music soon as Estelle is set to release her next EP at the end of this year. One lyric, in particular, captures the mindset she’s embracing at this stage of her career: “Let them talk, let them guess, I’m not bitter like they’re obsessed.”
Estelle explains, “I’m at a point where I don’t feel the need to defend myself anymore.”
“I just want to live my truest self, unapologetically. I’ve got a life to live, and I’m having a great time doing it.”
Estelle will be performing at Waterbomb Singapore 2025 on Sunday, 31 August
