Turning 33 was never going to be a low-key affair for Zhang Zetong. But instead of surprises and lavish gifts, the Emerald Hill actor marked his birthday by giving back.

Last weekend, Zetong celebrated another year around the sun by teaming up with his fan community, affectionately known as Macaroni FC, for a charity initiative. The gesture marks the seventh consecutive year he has chosen to dedicate his birthday to a good cause – a tradition that has grown to become as meaningful as it is consistent.

This year’s effort was carried out in collaboration with Yishun Family Service @ Children’s Society and its volunteer team, with donations directed towards families and individuals in need within the Yishun community. Together with Macaroni FC, Zetong helped raise close to S$7,000, which went towards purchasing daily essentials. The items were later distributed to 100 beneficiaries through a food donation drive.

Zetong kept the focus firmly on the bigger picture. “Instead of receiving lots of birthday gifts, I’d rather share the joy with more people,” he said at the event. “I feel very lucky to be celebrating with such kind-hearted Macaroni FC and to use this opportunity to give back. It’s incredibly meaningful, and if possible, I hope to continue doing this every year.”
