Xiang Yun was hospitalised earlier this month after finding blood in her urine after holding in her pee while shooting her new drama, The Lead.

The veteran actress recently celebrated 35 years in the industry and was supposed to receive an Artiste Appreciation Award at Mediacorp but was too sick to attend.

According to Shin Min Daily News, she revealed that she was sent to hospital at 3am, the day before she was supposed to receive the reward, after seeing blood in her urine.

She was alarmed at the sight of the blood and thought that she might be experiencing menopause or some kind of illness.

However, a doctor told her that she had a urinary tract infection (UTI) which came as a great relief to her.

She was given medicine and a few days medical leave.

She shared that while filming the drama, she held in her pee because all the toilets were locked and she did not have a key.

Because of this she also restricted her water intake and drank once a day, only visiting the toilet at night after filming.

She wants to remind herself and others around her that although work is important, don’t overwork yourself and make sure that you look after your body and health.

She blames her own negligence for not taking better care of herself but now tries to drink a lot of water and visit the toilet regularly.

She’s also eating cranberries that are known to help UTIs.
