The 23-year-old R&B star is famed for her curvaceous body, and cites working out for the action movie Battleship – which will see her make her screen debut and is set for release next year – as having an important effect on her.

"For the first time, I don’t want to get rid of the curves. I just want to tone it up," she told the April edition of US Vogue. "My body is comfortable, and it’s not unhealthy, so I’m going to rock with it."

Rihanna was discussing body image for the publication’s tenth annual shape issue. The gorgeous star also discussed her changing attitudes to clothing and style, as when she shot to fame in 2005 with debut studio album Music of the Sun she looked very different.

The young star sported long locks and an urban aesthetic, a far cry from the fashion-forward look she sports today.

Rihanna believes that chopping off her long tresses back in 2007 helped her develop into the fashionista she is, as she has since gone on to sport a variety of ground-breaking hairstyles and has become known for her revolutionary outfits. She also thinks the shorter locks had an impact on her music.

“When I cut my hair, the whole sound changed, my style changed,” she added.  © Cover Media
