An unfortunate event

1/10

Warren Beatty mistakenly announced La La Land as the winner of Best Picture. But don’t blame the 79-year-old actor.

As it turned out, it wasn’t his fault; he was in fact reading the results from a wrong envelope that was meant for the ‘Actress in a leading role’.

The big reveal version one

Twitterers were super quick in Photoshopping the images to create their own versions of who they think the real winners should be.

But it’s not just the Oscars they’re talking about; some wished that Hillary Clinton had won the latest US presidential election.

The big reveal version two

Obviously, some Twitter users agree with Adele that even though the Hello singer bagged the Album of the Year award at the recent Grammys, the real winner should have been Beyonce.

How did this even happen?!

So, who’s fault is it?

5/10

Well, it clearly wasn’t Warren Beatty’s fault because he wasn’t even holding the right envelope during the announcement.

So chances are, he could have been handed the wrong envelope by a staff but we still can’t believe this major cock up.

The Twitter world began guessing who the culprit was. Could it be Matt Damon who was constantly roasted by host Jimmy Kimmel throughout the night? Hmm…we’ll never know.

Or is it Ryan Gosling?

6/10

Earlier at the ceremony, host Jimmy Kimmel ushered in a group of unsuspecting tourists into the auditorium in the Dolby Theatre where the Academy Awards was at.

One of the sightseers Vicky (pictured), was caught off guard and she fangirled over Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Gosling.

Twitter user Wade Evans used a screenshot of Gosling whispering into Vicky’s ears and captioned it with “I switched the ‘Best Picture’ envelopes.” Hmm...

Don’t worry bro, I’ve got you

9/10

After learning that La La Land didn’t bag the Best Picture award, leading actor Ryan Gosling looked slightly disappointed (which is totally understandable).

Twitter users took the opportunity to poke fun by superimposing Gosling’s face on a screenshot of a Moonlight scene with Mahershala Ali holding on to him. Talk about onscreen bromance!
