10 actresses on Netflix who should be on your radar
Everything you'd want to to know about the talented actresses we've grown to love on Netflix
By BRANDON CHIA -
We love a good binge-watching marathon. If Netflix had a visible counter to document the hours spent perusing its expansive series and film archives, we would be in for a massive shock.
Of course, this would never stop us from pushing the play button, especially shows with incredibly talented actresses that hook us in from episode one to the finale.
Below, we’ve listed 10 actresses that we are currently obsessed with as well as a few juicy tidbits about them. Keep scrolling to see if your favourite actresses made the cut.
Our January cover star and brilliant actress who portrayed everyone’s favourite faux heiress deserves the top spot. Inventing Anna would not have reached its level of success without the nuance that Garner had poured into her character – from the jittery body language to the hodgepodge accent.
Without a doubt, Garner is a force to be reckoned with and her two Primetime Emmy trophies are a testament to that. She is also set to star in an upcoming social thriller film – The Royal Hotel – directed by Kitty Green and we cannot wait.
Teen drama Elite welcomes Argentinian actress and singer Valentina Zenere to its main cast for the newly released fifth season and we fell in love with her immediately. Without giving too much of the show away, Zenere redefines what the modern-day “girl boss” is all about.
Thank goodness Elite has been renewed for its sixth season because Zenere deserves way more screen time.
Bridgerton season two was everything and more thanks to Simone Ashley. The British actress’ chemistry with Jonathan Bailey was second to none and everyone fell head over heels for her. Fans need not worry now that Anthony’s chapter has ended, unlike Regé-Jean Page, Ashley has revealed that she will reprise her role for the third instalment.
However, there is some sad news – Ashley will not be returning for the fourth season of Sex Education, which is slated for September 2022. Bigger roles are bound to come her way in the future such as an undisclosed character in the live adaptation of The Little Mermaid.
Her portrayal of Sylvie, Emily’s tough-as-nails and chic boss in Emily in Paris, has garnered her a lot of fanfare for her savoury expressions and wit.
But we do have to wait a while to see Sylvie again in the third season as Leroy-Beaulieu expands her Netflix repertoire with a short appearance on the upcoming season of The Crown. She is set to play Monique Ritz, widower of hotelier Charles Ritz.
We are no stranger to the wondrous acting of Joey King who has starred in Netflix’s The Kissing Booth trilogy as well as the haunting Hulu series The Act, which earned her many award nominations. Now, we are gushing over her new film The In Between, a romance drama depicting two lovers who were separated by an untimely death.
King will also be showcasing her comedy chops in the star-studded film Bullet Train this July – acting next to the likes of Brad Pitt, Sandra Bullock and Bad Bunny.
There have been many gems within Netflix’s K-drama ventures, but our favourite has to be Kim Se-Jeong who plays the hilarious Shin Ha Ri in A Business Proposal. Many fans were captivated by Se-Jeong and co-star Ahn Hyo Seop’s on-screen romance but it was her comedic delivery that made the show a hit.
Although the series has ended after a mere 12 episodes, you can catch the star on another series titled Today’s Webtoon, which is a remake of a Japanese series – Sleepeeer Hit! Fans should also keep their ears peeled because Se-Jeong is signed to Jellyfish Entertainment and a member of the group Gugudan.
You should be familiar with Qualley. After all. she has starred in Death Note, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and the Netflix miniseries Maid. Qualley’s remarkable acting capabilities as seen in Maid should come as no surprise as she is the daughter of screen legend Andie MacDowell.
Before acting, Qualley was a trained ballerina and even pursued modelling. Now, Qualley has several films in post-production and she is one of the stars chosen for Chanel’s latest bag campaign, which was shot by Inez and Vinoodh.
Some of you may recognise Jones from the award-winning film CODA but before this big silver screen role as Ruby Rossi, Jones played Kinsey Locke on Netflix’s Locke & Key. The English actress showcased depth as she acts as an all-American teenage girl with supernatural powers.
Jones is also a singer and songwriter – she has lent her voice to the CODA soundtrack and wrote a song called ‘Through The Phone’ for the Irish band Wild Youth.
Fun fact: Jones played young Fiona in 2011’s Shrek The Musical in the West End.
tick, tick…BOOM! Is one of the best musical dramas to have graced the streaming platform and we can’t get enough of the cast especially Shipp’s singing prowess. We’ve seen her act in the X-Men franchise but we had no idea how amazing her voice truly is.
Shipp is set to star in a rom-com based on Barbie helmed by Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
An accomplished actress who starred in her very own Netflix film Always Be My Maybe, Wong soon followed up with her third Netflix special Don Wong where she dishes on being a mother, a wife and a woman in the most unapologetic and dirty ways.
All her specials are real knee-slappers, especially for Asian folk. However, we would avoid watching this during your lunch break at work because it is extremely NSFW.
