Move over, My Idol, a new app has taken over the world – Microsoft’s How Old Am I was all the rage over the Labour Day weekend.
Here’s how it works: Upload a photo of yourself, your grandma – anyone, and the “clever” app will try to guess the age of whoever and sometimes, whatever’s in the photo. Sounds like any other boring age-guessing app at first, until you realise how mindblowingly accurate it is.
Case in point: Morgan Freeman is 735-years-old – see how legit this is?
Of course, no good app goes without a proper test drive. We got the app to guess the ages of 25 celebrities, both local and regional, and the results are well, flattering for most, except for some unfortunate ones (the age gap’s pretty unbelievable).
See them all here:
Her World’s April covergirl Zoe Tay (Real age: 47) along with Chen Han Wei (45), Michelle Chia (39) and Fei Xiang (54) look about half their age.

Christopher Lee (43) beats our fave yummy mummy, his wife Fann Wong (44) in this game by looking 16. As for Prince Zed (about 9 months old), well, at least Microsoft got it right on the second try.
New hot mama in showbiz, Joanne Peh (32) looks stunning with fellow actor and husband Qi Yi Wu (38). No disputes here – while in their 30s, the couple can very well pass off as being in their mid-20s.
When we say the app detects whoever and whatever, we meant it. Here’s Desmond Tan (28), Belinda Lee (37), Aloysius Pang (24) and a sign board ballerina with their ages. (Belinda gets the best deal here, sorry guys.)
Remember this photo? Aaron Kwok is 50 this year, but like us, this app can’t tell. (By the way, how is it that the age difference here is only 4?!)

Guess the curled hair is a deal breaker for Hannah Quinlivan (21) on this app. (Jay Chou is 36.)

If the app says you’re 40 when you’re really 31, take it from Taeyeon (26) and strike your cutest pose, it’ll cut your age by 9 years.
(Hyoyeon and Sooyoung are both 25.)
We can’t help if they get your age and gender completely wrong though – Vaness Wu is 36 (and is male, FYI Microsoft), while Jackie is 61.
Now, the best for last – Chen Tian Wen (51) and his unbelievable age. I so stunned like vegetable!
Have you tried the app? Let us know your thoughts, and if you dare, your results!
