TAIPEI – First came a gold Lamborghini. Seven luxury cars followed, including five Rolls-Royces and a white Bentley.
Riding in the Bentley was R&B star David Tao, 45, who picked up his bride Penny Chiang, 29, in style on Sunday, said NetEase website.
The fleet was prepared by the bride’s businessman father, and the cars were worth about NT$200 million (S$8 million), said the report.
Tao said he had a teary morning at his in-laws’. “When my father-in-law gave me his daughter, my mother-in-law suddenly shed tears, Penny was suddenly moved to tears and I started crying.”
In the evening, the couple’s 55-table banquet at Mandarin Oriental Taipei was attended by guests including the biggest male stars, Wang Leehom, Jay Chou, JJ Lin and Jam Hsiao, who are known as Mandopop’s gifted four, said Taiwan Apple Daily.
Wang arrived at the banquet with his wife Li Jinglei, who was making her first public appearance after giving birth to a girl in July.
Chou, who had flown in from a gig in Shenzhen, did not show up at the banquet until after 9pm. The star, who has said he will tie the knot with model Hannah Quinlivan by his 36th birthday next year, admitted to reporters that he was at the wedding to do research.
“I see David Tao and Leehom, and I say, when will it be my turn,” he said.
Television host Chang Hsiao-yen wore a tie to the wedding on behalf of her friend and Tao’s late father, entertainer David Tao Ta-wei, said Apple Daily.
“David Tao got married so late, we had to be in good health to wait for this day,” she joked.
The groom sang at his own banquet. Holding his bride’s hand, he performed John Lennon’s Love, said NetEase. The couple also sang Tao’s Marry Me Today.
Hsiao performed, too, before the wedding wrapped.
