2018 has been pretty awesome for homegrown actor Pierre Png who landed the coveted role of Michael Teo, a suave former army sergeant turned tech entrepreneur who is married to a woman from one of Singapore’s richest families, in the movie “Crazy Rich Asians,” the film adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s novel by the same title.
This role marks his big screen debut in Tinseltown. Possibly the biggest year in Pierre’s two-decade long acting career, he also starred in three local productions earlier this year.
But it seems the dreamboat is willing to give it all up, if it meant granting his wife of 15 years, Andrea De Cruz, a wish.
Just watching his eyes light up when he gushes about Andrea, is enough to make us feel bad about our own relationship.
The pair made headlines in 2002 when Andrea suffered liver failure after taking slimming pills from Slim 10. Pierre donated a part of his liver to her. The two eventually tied the knot in 2003 and are still head over heels in love.
In a recent interview, Pierre revealed his secret to a long and successful marriage and shared that: “You have to both want it to be a long and successful marriage, and even learn from other people’s mistakes. I think you have to accept that you’re both individuals who are constantly growing and changing, who have different reactions and emotions. You’ve got to work as a pair with that.”
He added: “A friend told me it’s like swimming in a pair — you constantly have to constantly turn to see where your partner is. If you don’t, you could lose track of where they are entirely. I’ll also say, the grass is green where you water it, not that it’s greener on the other side.”
We put the actor in the hot seat with this game of “Would you rather?” and asked him some very tricky questions.
Would you rather always be 10 minutes late or be 20 minutes early?
I rather be 20 minutes early because I’m very good with killing time
Would you rather lose all your money and valuables or all of the pictures you have ever taken?
I would rather keep all my valuables because memories remain and memories I’m dear to are always in my heart.
Would you rather give up dance or martial arts?
These are the two things that I really love. But if I had to choose one, I would have to give up dance.
Would you rather never use social media or never watch another TV show again?
I love being on social media and seeing what’s being posted on social media. Unfortunately, it’s one of those things where I have to choose either or. I think I would choose to never watch another drama series again.
Would you rather score the acting gig of your dreams or give it all up to grant Andrea a wish?
I would give it all up to grant Andrea a wish. Just like that *snaps finger*.
