From The Straits Times    |

The beginning of December started off with a bang (or should we say, lots of bling) with two nights of celebration at the 20th Asian Television Awards. This year saw tight competition with more than 1,400 entries from all over Asia, and even from countries as far as Qatar!

The star-studded event opened to the public for the first time in 20 years, treating all attendees to a wonderful night and more importantly, a chance to mingle with the celebs. Other than cheering for the prize winners, we also enjoyed spectacular performances and glamourous red carpet appearances. Here are 5 of our favourite moments!

1. Aggun displays her legendary vocals
Indonesian sensation and Asia’s Got Talent judge Aggun sang Saviour, wowing the audience with her mighty vocals. We loved her simple black dress with flirty frills, and the toned bod that went along with it. There was no doubt about it: that girl was on fire! After her performance, we fully understand why she’s called ‘Lady Rock’ by her fans because she totally rocked the stage and left us breathless.

2. JTR melts hearts
Four words: adorable Australian boy band. Need we say more? The Australian X Factor finalists JTR performed Centre of My World, a catchy pop song that reminded us of One Direction. We may be biased, but we think that they’re irresistible, and we have hundreds of screaming girls in the room that second us on that.

3. Lim Kay Tong makes Singapore proud
Beating out competitors like George Young and Chen Hanwei, Lim Kay Tong took home the Best Actor in a Supporting Role award for his performance in HBO Asia’s original drama series Grace, in which he played a fortune teller. It’s funny to know that the only Singaporean to win an award that night did not expect to win at all, so much so that he turned up a full hour late!

“I was doing so many things, just running errands and doing mundane daily stuff, so I was running almost an hour behind schedule,” he told reporters backstage after the event. “All I wanted to do was go to the show and have some fun. So to actually win something – it’s just really gratifying.”

4. SECRET’s upbeat performance
Other than garnering the loudest cheers from the audience, Kpop girl band SECRET enchanted the audience with chirpy songs like I’m In Love. Jun Hyoseong, Jung Hana, Song Jieun and Han Sunhwa may look demure with their sweet smiles and dolly makeup, but these girls are fierce on the dance floor. We have one question: how does one manage to dance so well in those sky-high heels?

5. Felicia Chin’s moment to shine
Even though she lost the Best Actress award to China’s Zhou Xun, Felicia Chin will always be a winner in our hearts, and she definitely had on a winning outfit that night. Her feminine white dress with intricate lace details and masculine structured blazer makes for a chic outfit with interesting polarity. Keep dressing like that and you’ll take home an award one day, Felicia!
