Anna Wintour hires Anna Wintour likes her colleagues to argue with her.

The editor of American Vogue is one of the most prominent figures in the fashion industry and is known for her no-nonsense attitude.

Despite her own straight-talking approach, the 63-year-old would rather work with people who oppose her views every now and again.

“I look for strong people,” she told British newspaper The Telegraph when asked how she picks her staff.

“I don’t like people who’ll say yes to everything I might bring up. I want people who can argue, and disagree, and have a point of view that’s reflected in the magazine. My dad believed in the cult of personality. He brought great writers and columnists to the Standard. I try to do that here, too.”

Anna’s father was the editor of British newspaper the London Evening Standard between 1959 and 1976.

The fashion mogul learnt a lot about working in the media industry from her journalist parent.

“The family all knew that he cared very deeply about us, but we also knew that he cared very deeply about the paper,” she recalled.

“There wasn’t any sense that he was an absent father – on the other side, he taught all of us what a work ethic is, and how important it is to love what you do in life.”

Anna has been in the industry for a long time, combining her two loves of journalism and fashion.

She is known for her constant stream of innovative looks and says the changing nature of trends is what appeals to her.

“One doesn’t want fashion to look ridiculous, silly, or out of step with the times – but you do want designers that make you think, that make you look at fashion differently. That’s how fashion changes. If it doesn’t change, it’s not looking forward. And that’s important to me,” she explained. © Cover Media
