Andy Lau: "Make sure you do your very best and just be yourself."

The actor's new movie The Great Wall may be a hit but he's more concerned about giving his best act

A decorated veteran celebrity, Andy Lau has won so many awards in his 35 years as a actor/singer, that it has become hard for him to keep track.

Despite the countless achievements, the Hong Kong star remains unaffected.

"It's not important," he shares. "It never was for me."

“If I get an award, it is wonderful, but if I don't, it's okay because I know how much effort I have put into something. 

“That's what you need to do every time you start any work - you need to make sure you do your very best and just be yourself. 

“That's more important," said Lau in an exclusive interview in Beijing, China. 

Lau was there to promote his latest film, The Great Wall, which was directed by renown Chinese director Zhang Yimou, reports Asia News Network via AsiaOne

The film also stars nia names like Matt Damon, Pedro Pascal, Willem Dafoe, Jing Tian, Luhan and Eddie Peng. 

It follows the story of two foreign mercenaries who get involved in a war between elite Chinese guards and savage monsters called the "taotie".

Lau plays the lead strategist of the 'Nameless Order', a division of the imperial court that helps to repel the taotie, and he speaks mostly English in the film.

 "When I was preparing for the character, I had to think about his background and what he was like, in English.”
