Ladies, here is another reason to eat more fruits and vegetables.

According to this study, a diet rich in carotenoids, the nutrients found in fruits and vegetables, may reduce your risk of breast cancer.

Researchers from Harvard Medical School analysed data from eight trials that included more than 3,000 women with breast cancer and nearly 4,000 women who didn’t have the disease.

The findings showed that women with the highest levels of carotenoids in their blood had a lower risk of breast cancer compared to women with the lowest levels.

The association was especially strong for cancers that are harder to treat. Results were published December 6 in the US-based Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

According to WebMD, carotenoids are micronutrients in fruits and vegetables that give them their bright orange, yellow, and red colours.

Good sources include carrots, sweet potatoes, oranges, spinach, kale, red peppers, and winter squash.
