#daretodream: A singing Singapore paralegal with a love for fashion

It never hurts to dream big: This young legal executive hopes to juggle not just one but four of her biggest passions.

Meet Nurul Khaalisah Binte Suhaimi, a fresh faced and ambitious 21-year-old who aspires to become a lawyer, while embracing her love of fashion, modelling and music.

Suhaimi, who is currently working as a paralegal, started modelling when she was shortlisted as a The New Paper New Face contest finalist in 2011.

The Temasak Polytechnic graduate has since gone on to model for Singapore fashion label ModKebaya, with plans of creating her own clothing line one day too.

“I have always aspired to be a commercial model and a fashion designer,” says Suhaimi, whose interest in fashion started from the tender age of 10. In that same year, she was featured in the former Jobs for Juniors television series on Kids Central, as a young fashion designer mentee.

This multi-talented Singaporean also sings bossa nova by the stage name of Yuyul Mimik. She was the opening act for Malaysian pop star Yuna at the Arts House back in 2010, when she was just 17. Music runs in her blood: her dad is a musician and singing coach, who had spurred her into embracing her passion for music.

Along with an interest to serve the community, Suhaimi hopes that her career in law will help fund her many and varied passionate pursuits, as well as potential volunteer trips abroad. This go-getter is currently pursuing a law degree through a part-time study program, to get a step closer to achieving her big aspirations.

“Khaalisah inspires us all to dream big,” says Genevieve Jiang, editor of Her World magazine, who had co-selected Suhaimi as a nominee. “She shows us that we can achieve anything through determination and hard work. Very cool indeed.”

Niki Bruce, editor of herworldPLUS agrees full-heartedly: “I love that Lisah Suhaimi, our second #daretodream nominee manages to mix her academic life with the world of fashion … It just goes to show that women really can do anything they set their mind to!”
