Last week, we began our interview series with Instagram fitness star Georgina Poh (@sugarrandspice), who is not only a certified personal trainer with a full client list, but also a Yoga teacher, TRX trainer (and now herworldPLUS’s fitness guru) all whilst still pursuing her degree! What’s more, this wonder woman has barely begun her 20s… Rather than be envious, we equip you with mid-week, hump day motivation from this inspirational woman as she shares how exercising provided her a refuge from physical pain and just who her personal #fitspiration is.

herworldPLUS: What is your ultimate motivation for keeping fit? Is it aesthetic, health related, purely for enjoyment or all of the above?

Georgina Poh: I guess my main focus is to constantly get better in strength, mobility and endurance. I want to work towards being the best version of me. It kind of subconsciously started being a “temporary refuge” from pain for me, as all my physical pain seems to fade away when I am working out. I am diagnosed with Hypermobility Syndrome (loose joints). This means that I can be very prone to getting injured and joint pain. My risk of incurring injuries such as a slipped disc or dislocations is very high and lifting has actually helped to protect my body , as I’ve gained strength and muscles to help hold my joints in place, which is why I am so thankful that I started lifting!

HWP: Who are your biggest fitness influencers? Is there anyone who inspires you in the fitness network?

GP: I know this may be strange but I don’t have anyone that I look up to for motivation. It all started with personal curiosity and me falling in love with weightlifting and it has remained like this ever since!

HWP: Do you ever feel unmotivated to work out? If so, how do you combat that and what advice would you give those who are less disciplined?

GP: There are definitely times where I feel like skipping my workout and I always try to remind myself about why I started and the satisfaction that I get after a good workout.  One good way to prevent yourself from skipping workouts is to get a gym buddy! That way, workouts won’t be so boring and there is always someone there to push you to go even harder during sessions.
