We’ve all heard the saying – ‘new year, new you’ – But you don’t have to change much to have a better, happier and more enjoyable life. It starts with simplifying and here are six ways to do it.

SLOW DOWN
Everyone seems to be in a hurry these days and stress levels are generally high so take the time to slow down. Look after yourself and take time out to do something that you love. Whether it’s yoga, baking or just a long bath, fit in some me-time into your routine and you’ll be more relaxed, easily.

PAY YOUR BILLS
It can be a pain keeping track of the various bills that are due at different times of the month but make sure you pay them on time. This ensures that you won’t waste money on late fees or interest charges so it helps you financially too. Set reminders for when each bill is due so you won’t forget. Or try to automate your payments if possible, so all you have to do is just check your bank statement each month, to confirm that all of them went through without a hitch.

CLEAN OUT YOUR CLOSET
The theory here is simple – the less clothes we have, the less time we spend deciding what to wear. It can be a chore to pick out an outfit for each workday so having less choices will make life a lot easier.

BE POSITIVE
A lot of energy is wasted on negative emotions such as jealousy, envy and hate. Gossip is another such culprit. Spend more time on positive emotions and you’ll find not only will your life be simpler, it’ll also be more productive.

JUST SAY NO
Don’t be afraid to turn down invitations to things you don’t want to attend. You’re not obliged to go for every get-together or night out and you’re better off alone doing something you love than being surrounded by people you don’t really like, then regretting it later.

SWITCH OFF YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA
Social media is a fun way to kill time but it’s also, if we’re honest, a complete waste of time. How many times have you said to yourself, “I’ll just have a quick look” and still be on it an hour later? It can also affect you negatively, if the deluge of ‘look at my happy life’ posts get to you. Either log off completely or set yourself time limits to access your accounts – and stick to them.
