It’s time to say hello to aloe vera and all the properties the plant boasts. It’s always been a favourite in gel form to slather on to skin if you’ve had too much sun, but the health benefits don’t end there. From cleansing your innards to supporting the immune system, now is the time to add some aloe into your life.

1. Detoxifying

The leaves of the aloe vera plant are packed full of amino acids, vitamins and minerals which make it one of nature’s best cleansers. It helps with digestion, which in turn clears the body of toxins and waste. Its anti-inflammatory properties can also be effective with problems like acne, rosacea and IBS.

2. Supports immune system

As well as all the natural goodies mentioned above, aloe vera is also brimming with polysaccharides, which helps the immune system function properly.

3. Lowers cholesterol and blood sugar

Evidence has suggested aloe vera has a positive impact on both blood sugar levels and lowering cholesterol.

4. Good for burns and soothing skin

It’s not just adding aloe vera to your diet that can help, but also using it in products or in its pure form. This is to do with the anti-inflammation properties it has. Cancer Research UK also says that some people use it to treat burns caused by their radiotherapy treatment.

5. It hydrates and invigorates skin too and enhances collagen production.

Aloe vera can be found on most supermarket shelves in the form of aloe vera drinks, as well as health stores who have liquid forms and high strength versions. Also look out for topical forms like gels, creams and post-shaving products. — Cover Media
