The third season of the much-talked-about HBO series, Game of Thrones, is finally back and die-hard fans worldwide are welcoming it with open arms by throwing viewing parties and rewatching past seasons just to prep themselves for the return of this epic series.

While I shan’t profess to be a know-it-all about the series, I shall confess my undying obsession with it.

It is – simply put – an all-round mind-blowing hell of a series.

The plotlines are complicated, intriguing and never-predictable (unless you’ve read the books),  the acting is sublime (cue Lena Heady, Peter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke, Jack Gleeson and the list goes on), the sets are epic, the action scenes are gripping and even the CGI work is mostly believable.

The moment I laid eyes on the first episode of season 1, I knew I was hooked, in it for the long haul.

Here are 5 (out of the millions) reasons on why I’m continue to be obsessed with the series.  And whether you’re a fan or not, maybe one or two of these reasons may be good enough to make you check out at least a couple of epsiodes.

#1 Dirty, grimy men somehow still appear hot
The series is set in medieval times, which means, everyone is dirty 24/7. OK, everyone except the royals, are constantly covered in dirt, grime and mud. Yet somehow, Jon Snow (played by Kit Harrington), Robb Stark (played by Richard Madden) and Jaime Lannister (played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) still ooze sex appeal.

Their clothes are covered with dirt, their hair is constantly greasy plus we don’t remember them ever taking baths – but do people still think they are hot? YEAH! Why? We’re not really sure, but we certainly agree. Maybe there’s something appealing about their neanderthal manly state. We’re just thankful there’s no smell-o-vision.

#2 Haute Couture – GoT style
If you have yet to notice the gorgeous gowns donned by the Ladies - look abit harder. The detailing on their gowns is so intricate, it will blow your mind.

Plus, every female character has their own style – Daenerys Targaryen loves mixing textures – leather and chiffon, brass and muslin.

Cersei Lannister is obsessed with her long flowy kimono inspired sleeves. Margaery Tyrell (hi Anne Boleyn!) wears architectural (albeit revealing) gowns perfectly while Melisandre opts for the colour of the season – oxblood.

The men aren’t too shabby either – with King Joffrey favouring  well-tailored cloaks, Jon Snow and Robb Stark donning full fur coats or stoles.

The most entertaining bit? Is to trawl the net to see tons of fashion sites raving and recapping each episodes’ fashion highlights.

#3 The mythical creatures and beings
The White Walkers, the three-eyed raven, the dragons, the direwolves, the shadowcats  are all mythical creatures which only exist in fictional Westeros – but that doesn’t stop us from wanting to have a direwolf of our own to protect us, or a dragon as our guard dog in case of unwanted stalkers.

Even the scary White Walkers serve as a great inspiration if you need nicknames for people you’re trying to avoid or run away from.

#4 Girl power
The last time we actually experienced legit girl power in a group was in the form of Baby, Ginger, Sporty, Posh and Scary – yes, I am referring to the Spice Girls. Like it or not, they rocked our worlds in the ‘90s and taught us all about being women.

We have been searching high and low for another group of empowering females to take their place but to no avail – Claire Danes in Homeland is a solo act, the Pretty Little Liars are a tad too young, and the Kardashians aren’t exactly what I would call inspiring.

But enter Game of Thrones , where all the female characters are strong, powerful and smart – wrapping the men around their fingers – without them even realising.

Case in point – Cersei Lannister vs Jaime Lannister, Tyrion Lannister and even King Joffrey ; Daenerys Targaryen vs Khal Drogo, Jorah Mormont; Margaery Tyrell vs King Joffrey (he will fall prey soon); Shae vs Tyrion Lannister, Wildling Ygritte vs Jon Snow, Talisa Maegyr vs Robb Stark and Catelyn Stark vs LittleFinger.

#5 Epic one-liners
With every episode, there are more than a handful of epic one-liners spewed by the characters that will no doubt stick in your mind. The poignant ones, the harsh back-handed insults – all of them are so brilliantly written, it encapsulates the moment and the relationships so well.

I particularly enjoyed this exchange between Tyrion Lannister and his oh-so-evil sister Cersei Lannister:

"You're a clever man, but you're not half as clever as you think you are," Cersei tells Tyrion, to which he responds, "Still makes me more clever than you."

So if you’re intrigued by what you’ve read about the show and you’re trying to decide if you should give it a shot – I say, judging by my 5 reasons – you definitely should.

Just thank me for it later. Enjoy.
