The mooncakes from this Teochew confectionary shop are laboriously made by hand, resulting in perfectly light and flaky skin with rich, smooth filling. Besides the traditional flavours of sweet and salty tau sar ($28.80 for four medium pieces), you’ll want to try the durian ($38.80 for four pieces) and Yuan Yang flavour ($28.80 for four medium pieces), which is a savoury pastry filled with mung bean paste, sesame, spicy pork floss and salted egg yolk.

While Goodwood Park Hotel is known for their their durian mooncakes, the new pineapple, lemongrass and dark cherry snowskin mooncake ($33 for two pieces) might just steal the show this year. With lemongrass-infused pineapple puree and a dark cherry, this snowskin mooncake is fruity, tangy and a perfect tropical treat. If you’re not a fan of pineapple however, the ever-popular Mao Shan Wang and D24 durian snowskin mooncakes will also be available this year. Try the new limited edition white lotus seed paste with D24 durian and white lotus seed paste with jackfruit this year too ($45 for one piece of each flavour), and you might find a new favourite among their tropical offerings.

The white lotus and black sesame paste mooncake ($56 for four pieces) is not sickly-sweet, and a perfect fragrant treat to go together with an afternoon cup of tea. Other flavours also include white lotus and macadamia nuts ($54 for four pieces), white lotus with single yolk ($56 for four pieces) and lotus with double yolk ($58 for four pieces).

For the first time ever, Dean & DeLuca will be hopping onto the mooncake bandwagon to present a selection of traditional baked mooncakes with a modern twist. For starters, if you’re a fan of sweet, irresistible maple syrup, you’ll definitely want to get your hands on the maple walnut mooncake. This mooncake not only smells like maple syrup, you can taste the honeyed flavour with every bite and the walnuts also give the mooncake a good crunch, which prevents it from feeling too heavy. Other special flavours also include coffee mocha, earl grey and white lotus macadamia.

The full moon hamper set ($98, above) consists of Michel Cluziel chocolate bars, two bottles of Pommillon sparkling juice and your choice of two mooncakes. Other hamper sets are also available and are perfect to gift to friends and family this mid-autumn festival.

This year, Li Bai Cantonese restaurant will be presenting its signature baked mooncakes and snowskin mooncakes with three new flavours. A flavour that you will want to try is the mini red date paste with apricot snowskin mooncake ($56 for eight pieces). This new creation features both red dates and apricots, making the mooncake naturally sweet and good for you.The sticky texture of the mooncake is something new and you’ll no doubt enjoy it if you like your mooncakes sweet. On the other hand, if you are looking for something less sweet, but still new, try the mini green tea white lotus seed paste with yuzu truffle ($56 for eight pieces), mini snow skin white lotus with salted egg yolk ($56 for eight pieces) or white lotus seed paste with four egg yolks ($88 for four pieces) mooncakes.

If you’re bored of having to pick from baked or snowskin mooncakes each year, why not try the SG50 moon gems from Swensen’s ($35.80 for four pieces, with choice of flavours)? These moon gems are essentially creamy ice cream encased in pastry skin. These ice cream mooncakes are a refreshing change from the usual mooncakes, and children will love them too! Try the lychee dreams flavour if you love this tropical fruit as it is not only made with Swensen’s lychee ice cream, but also mixed with actual lychee flesh, giving it an addictively chewy texture. The yam flavour is also a must-try, with its creamy, familiar taste.

If you’ve never got to try mooncakes from TWG Tea, you would want to give the snowskin mooncakes (from $16 per piece) a go. These mooncakes come in four different flavours; pure, illumination, dragon and celebration. Our favourite is the pure mooncake a smooth white snowskin mooncake filled with dark chocolate mousse infused with 1837 white tea, with a blackcurrant marmalade and white chocolate centre. This mooncake is extremely decadent and dessert-like, perfect for a post mid-autumn dinner treat. The other mooncakes are also infused with different iconic teas so you can have your pick of mooncakes with your favourite tea.

If snowskin mooncake isn’t your thing, you will not regret trying the baked mooncakes from Holiday Inn. The mooncakes from Holiday Inn will not disappoint the biggest egg yolk lover for it has a selection of four-yolk ($68 for four pieces), double yolk ($60 for four pieces) and single yolk ($56 for four pieces) white lotus seed paste mooncakes. I would definitely recommend to give the four-yolk a try as you will be able to get a taste of the savoury egg yolk in every slice of mooncake you cut and the moist, smooth white lotus paste of the mooncakes will leave you wanting more.

If you love fresh, fruity flavours, you will want to try the snowskin mooncakes from Yan Ting. With flavours such as cranberry paste with salted egg yolk ($73 for eight pieces), white lotus paste with lychee martini truffle ($75 for eight pieces) and white lotus paste with lemon truffle ($73 for eight pieces), you will be able to indulge in as many special creations as you want. Go for the cranberry paste and salted egg yolk mooncake if you want to try something new this flavour is different from any other mooncakes I’ve tasted and the mix of cranberry and egg yolk makes it distinctively unique with a good mixture of salty and sweet.

The snowskin mooncakes from Jade restaurant is perfect if you are looking for new creations that still give you a traditional, homely feel. The pandan with gula melaka snowskin mooncake ($58 for four pieces) will definitely be a crowd pleaser if you are having guests around during the mid-autumn festival. The all-familiar pandan flavour is mixed together with the rich sweetness of palm sugar to make a sweet, addictive treat. You might also want to try the green bean with sweet potato and white lotus seed paste snowskin mooncake ($58 for four pieces). Although the pandan with gula melaka flavour would be my top choice, this would be a slightly healthier alternative, and they taste (almost!) as good too.

Love popular desserts like tiramisu, chocolate mint ice cream, Thai milk tea and all things cookies and cream? You’re in for a treat! If you’re still pondering on the link between these ‘modern’ desserts and mooncakes, you’ll be pleasantly surprised that Prima Deli has combined these flavours with their snowskin mooncakes this year. The mini orange with Valrhona chocolate pearls mooncake ($5.40 per piece) has a citrusy, tangy taste and the chocolate pearls in the mooncake gives it a crunchy, interesting texture. You know how you might start feeling sick if you have too many mooncakes in one seating? The textures and flavours of these mooncakes are so original and ‘modern’, you’ll never get sick from reaching for the next one.

This will be the first time we’ll be able to try mooncakes from Kinki restaurant, and they had some of the prettiest mooncakes I’ve ever seen! These mooncakes would be perfect to gift to your friends who are usually disinterested in traditional looking mooncakes. In addition, the green tea charcoal snowskin mini mooncake ($28 for four pieces) will satisfy all matcha lovers with it’s chewy charcoal skin and green tea flavoured lotus seed paste. Other flavours to try include the red bean snowskin mini mooncake ($28 for four pieces), yuzu snowskin mini mooncake ($32 for four pieces) and cream cheese cranberry snowskin mini mooncake ($32 for four pieces).

Durian lovers are in for a treat! The mini snowskin king of durian mooncake ($68 for eight pieces) from Majestic Restaurant is creamy, bittersweet and really smooth. The rich flesh of Mao Shan Wang durian is used to create the filling for this mooncake, which makes it very indulgent and substantial. No durian flavouring or fake pulp is used here — you’ll only get delicious, quality durian flesh as you bite into this mooncake. You should give this mooncake a try even if you’re not a fan of durians, trust me. If you’re really adverse to the idea of durians however, Majestic Restaurant also has a mini snow skin with Kwai Fei lychee liqueur ($55 for eight pieces), an equally rich treat that you’ll want to try.

If you’re a cheese lover, you’ll be really excited to know that you’ll be able to get a cheese mooncake from Starbucks this year! The camembert and smoked cheddar with pamersan truffle mooncake (8 snowskin pieces for $53.90) is a cheese lover’s dream, with all three cheeses infused into the mooncake’s snowskin, lotus paste and core. You’ll want to try this mooncake yourself if you’re up for a ‘cheesy’ surprise. If you’re not a big fan of cheese, you can also opt to try other special snowskin flavours which include Starbucks coffee with white chocolate truffle and cranberry macadamia with yoghurt truffle.

Healthy things don’t neccessarily taste bad, for this mooncake is really fragrant and delicious and also one of the best-sellers!
