Deciding on which credit card to use used to be simple—mostly because we didn’t have that many options to begin with. You’d just pick from a handful and go with the one that gave you the most basic perks. Fast forward to now, and it’s a whole new world. There are more choices than ever, and some cards even let you customise and switch between different types of rewards—think cashback, miles, points, investment credits, and even carbon credits.

These days, personalisation has gone from a nice bonus to something that young consumers actively expect. Millennials and Gen Zs, in particular, aren’t just looking for a card—they’re looking for a card that works for them.

In a recent survey by DCS Card Centre involving 1,000 young professionals aged 21 to 35, more than half of the respondents said they’d rather be able to choose their rewards than be stuck with just one option. It makes sense—why juggle multiple cards when you can have one flexible card that could cover all your bases?

To add on, with cashless payments being the norm, it’s only natural that people want a credit card that can keep up with their lifestyle—whether that means brunching on weekends, shopping online, or booking last-minute flights.

The more digitally savvy we get, the more we expect from the tools we use. And that includes how we spend on the financial front. Now, it’s not just about paying for things anymore—it’s about making your money work harder, in ways that matter to you.

“With Singapore’s young professionals demanding smarter, more intuitive solutions, financial institutions must innovate to meet consumer expectations by offering products that prioritise a client-centric approach and seamless digital integration,”
Lionel, Managing Director of Consumer Cards at DCS Card Centre.

One example of this is the FLEX credit card, which was designed with flexibility in mind. With just a minimum spend of $600 a month, users can enjoy perks like up to 2.4 miles per dollar spent, up to 8% cashback, or up to 8% investment credits. There are also new reward options rolling out soon, like carbon credits for eco-conscious spenders. And the best part? You can switch between these reward types month to month, depending on what suits your needs.

You’ll also get access to a handy tracker via the DCS Cards App, so you can monitor your spending and see how to get the most out of your card.

At the end of the day, flexible credit cards are not just up and coming, but they also signal a bigger shift in how we approach personal finance. Nowadays, consumers are on the hunt for more than just a one-size-fits-all solution. Instead, most of us are looking for cards that adapt to us, and not the other way around. That includes earning miles for certain months and getting cashback on the next month—and finally, credit cards are catching up.
