The Her World Mentorship Programme returns with a focus on supporting women re-entering the workforce. This year’s mentors share what inspired them to take part.

Having a mentor at work helped Rocky Esguerra adjust to a new role at Pfizer as chief human resources officer (CHRO) for the Asia-Pacific region after moving from Procter & Gamble (P&G), where she had worked for several decades.

“My boss paired me with a senior executive – a former P&Ger who had made a similar move to Pfizer. He became my mentor, offering cultural context, practical guidance, and a safe space to ask questions. That support enabled me to thrive in a new environment,” she shares.

Rocky started her career at the age of 21 as a management trainee at P&G, and is a certified executive coach today. Drawing on her experience raising her children across five different countries, she supports female leaders in multinational companies – guiding them from burnout, self-doubt or stagnation to confidence, clarity and purposeful success.

“I encountered strong, inspiring leaders who taught me valuable life skills as I grew older, got married, and had children – all while pursuing my career goals. As my life evolved, so did the kind of support I needed.

“It’s never too late to pivot, reinvent yourself, and define your own version of success. Your values, strengths, blind spots and energy drivers shape how you work, what you need, and where you thrive. I’m excited to learn from our mentees too – and to have some fun along the way,” says Rocky.

What inspired you to volunteer as a mentor for the Her World Mentorship Programme?

I’m inspired by Her World’s mission to empower women. When I heard about this year’s programme, I knew I wanted to contribute. Having led the APAC HR function in three global multinational companies – P&G, Pfizer and Heineken – and as an executive coach, I’ve supported women at every stage of their careers.

I help women rewrite their stories and pursue success on their own terms, without neglecting their other roles in life. Why? Because I believe there’s more to life than just the job. You deserve to live a fulfilling life while excelling in your career.

What role does mentorship play in fostering diversity and inclusion?

It starts with the realisation that: “If she can do it, I can too.” Mentorship offers women, especially those from under-represented groups, real life proof that success for people like them is possible. It breaks down barriers through visibility, and builds bridges through connection.

Great mentors challenge bias, open doors and amplify voices that need to be heard. Inclusion begins with representation, but it thrives through relationships that help people in their journeys.

How does one make the most of a mentorship opportunity?

As a mentor, I bring curiosity and openness. I take the time to understand my mentee’s strengths, weaknesses, challenges and goals – and how I can best support them. I share my experiences, but I don’t impose, because everyone’s journey is different.

It’s up to them to decide what advice is relevant, and how to apply it to their own path. It’s a two-way relationship. I aim to learn from my mentees as well, express gratitude for their time, and stay in touch even after the programme ends.

“It’s never too late to pivot, reinvent yourself, and define your own version of success. Your values, strengths, blind spots and energy drivers shape how you work, what you need, and where you thrive.”
