A familiar face on local television, Bonnie Loo (@bonnieloo94) has expanded to the livestreaming stage earlier this year. Seeing the success and growth of live streaming, she was keen to try something new and one that would play to her strength in entertaining.

A friend introduced her to Shopee and as an avid user of the platform herself, she says it seemed like “fate” that she got the opportunity.

“When I first started, it was challenging, but I’ve always enjoyed stepping out of my comfort zone. I wanted to see if I could take on something completely new, learn from the ground up, and grow through the process.”

She also had to get used to talking to herself during live streams and be more extroverted. It even helped her improve her English as she has to explain skincare ingredients in English, instead of Mandarin, which she is more familiar with.

“As I started streaming across fashion and beauty, more brands of all sizes and from different categories began reaching out – brands that were also new to me. I still feel a sense of achievement from that,” says Bonnie.

Now she works with over 10 brands across beauty, skincare, and even electronics, expanding her reach beyond beauty to a wider audience.

Recently, she went on her first overseas trip with Shopee to South Korea last month to livestream with a curated line-up of skincare brands.

“I’m excited to keep learning and improving my livestreams, like discovering new tools, refining my content, and finding better ways to connect with viewers,” she says.

How Shopee builds careers that thrive on community

Bonnie teams up with brands to offer her community special deals. With features like coin giveaways and exclusive vouchers, Shopee helps her keep every livestream lively and interactive.

Sales were slow at first, so she set a goal to earn at least half the salary of her full-time job. Within eight months, she could see the revenue grow and has since achieved her target.

Guided support from the Shopee team has also been an immense help for newbies like her: “Shopee is also good with updating us with key events and initiatives, and they will work with me to manage the time and commitments together. The team also supports marketing efforts such as designing in-app banners for creator visibility.

“Our faces will be featured beside the brand we’re streaming for. It’s great that I don’t have to do all the marketing on my own,” says Bonnie.

With Shopee’s Affiliate Programme, Bonnie deepens her engagement with fans and finds new momentum in her livestreaming journey

“It’s still early days, but I’m hopeful about turning this into something more stable over time,” she says.

With Shopee’s user-friendly tools, women entrepreneurs are not only growing their businesses, but also uplifting other women along the way.
