Let’s get real: there is no real handbook to succeeding in the workplace. It’s not like you turn 18, and someone hands you a manual to learn everything you need to know about navigating adulthood and the career challenges that may come your way. So often, so much of what we learn in the journey as a working adult is through trial and error or observation. Are emojis allowed, or are they too casual? And how do you make sure your resume is hitting all the right things that employers are looking for?
Thankfully, we also live in an age where social media can be of great help. Beyond just serving as platforms for selfies and food flat-lays, influencers on TikTok and Instagram are now ever ready to tell you how to negotiate for a higher salary, or fence healthy boundaries in the workplace.
The surge of accounts dishing out career tips and advice has grown exponentially and continues to do so even today, which begs the question: which accounts are actually trustworthy, and what advice is actually sound? Having screened their content for you, here are some of our best-loved career content creators that you should check out.
Anyone who’s spent enough time on Instagram browsing Reels would’ve definitely come across Laura’s content. Touting herself as “your virtual work bestie”, she’s great at sharing her take on your career-related questions, whilst remaining fun and friendly to her followers. Between hilarious skits, Laura is also best known for her “How do I professionally say…” series, which takes on all the spicy questions ranging from telling your coworker to stop stalling on their tasks to asking your boss to use Google before asking you yet another silly question.
Sometimes, it feels like a lot of our career doubts exist in a kind of HR grey zone. How does one follow up on an application without sounding pushy? What do we do when we’re baffled by an interview question? This is where Jackie Caves enters. As an HR professional, her feed mixes vignettes of her daily life with really solid advice that will help you conquer the workplace.
If 480,000 people are following Erin for career advice, then she must be doing plenty of things right. Her feed features the usual mix of skits and listicles, but Erin also shares need-to-knows when it comes to corporate legal advice and useful resources like email templates.
Run by a career coach named Rosie, this account instantly grabs your attention with bright splashy colours and graphics. But take a deeper read into the content and you’d find plenty of wise nuggets to pick up as well. Some of our favourite pieces that she’s shared recently include how one should reject lowball job offers, and whether it’s wise to apply for multiple roles within the same organisation.

Run by a recruiter named Gabrielle Woody, the account is a great resource for people who are just starting their career and need effective advice to help them get through those early job application and interviewing experiences. Where most creators on #careertok share advice for people who are already in jobs and need to deal with difficult situations, Gabrielle’s content largely focuses on helping people to first get in the door. This means interview tips, resume 101 info and so on.

No matter how many years you’ve been in the workforce – be it 6 months or 16 years – it always helps to be reminded of certain tips and advice when it comes to your career. That’s why we love Career Contessa. Her feed goes a little deeper than just email templates and cover letter tips, and much of her content focuses on dealing with the many psychologies of the office. Topics that she touches on includes workplace gaslighting, how to get better and more constructive criticism and combating workplace indecisiveness.
Former Meta employee Rawan is a go-to for anyone seeking practical advice on a career in tech. From recommending the best training programs that can help you kickstart your career in the industry, to sharing more about workplace diversity advice, her account is already a favorite amongst millennial and Gen Z working girls.
