Just as there are various gown silhouettes that flatter different body shapes, there are also certain gown styles and necklines that may be visually more suited for those who are more petite up top. Whether you’re looking to add a little volume or are seeking a flattering style, see our favourite looks for small-chested brides.

Point to note: busty or petite, our girls should be celebrated!

Sweetheart Neckline

When it comes to accentuating your bust, the shape of the classic sweetheart neckline is the most flattering since it creates curves, volume and definition.

Deep necklines

While they also flaunt a full bust, there’s a kind of chic grace that small-chested ladies can pull off with a plunging neckline. Plus, you’ll also be able to accessorise with long (like a lariat) necklace – it may look a tad awkward resting in between a deep cleavage. See our guide to accessorising this sexy bridal look.

High Necklines

A high-necked halter gown brings the attention away from the bust and draws the eye to the shoulders and neck (perfect for brides with toned shoulders) while giving you the illusion of a fuller bust. Choosing a gown with intricate lace details on the upper torso also helps bring some well appreciated volume to the bust. Here, strategic cut-outs on this Inbal Dror gown lend curves to the form, while gathers add volume.

Off The Shoulder

Bring the focus to your shoulders and collarbone with this graceful, feminine silhouette. The sweetheart neckline and lace details is a marriage made in heaven for small-chested ladies, who will be able to pull this off with ease.

Embellishments and Ruffles

Embellishments and ruffles on the upper torso add layers and texture which in turn ups the volume and attention, and creates shape – on a woman with a larger bust, this could add unwanted bulk and create disproportion.

Back Details

If you plan to tone down in front, bring the party to your back. Whether intricate illusion details, a backless one that exposes skin tastefully or dramatic beading, these will get heads turning as your walk down the aisle.

Mermaids

Bring emphasis to your overall silhouette instead. The flared out shape of a mermaid, especially one that’s cinched in at the waist, creates curves that enhances your form.
