We’ve finally hit the mid-year mark of 2020, which means we could all do with a fresh dose of #beautyinspo. Since June is the birthday month for many of our favourite celebs, we’ve decided to compile some of the best beauty tricks from these June babies.
Whether you’re thinking about changing up your hairdo or looking to get some tips to look fresher and younger, here are 14 celebs born in June and their beauty tips to get this month started on the right foot.
Looking at the Winter Sonata actress now, you’d probably be surprised that she’s about to turn 45 this year. Choi Ji-woo has a knack not just for acting, but for looking younger than she actually is. From her radiant skin to her light makeup, she knows how to look put together without seeming like she really aged at all.
A beauty trick of hers that we’ve noticed is her constant use of coral lipsticks, which instantly adds a pop of colour to her face. The mauve-coral lip look she’s rocking here brightens her face and perks up dull skin, making it a great alternative to the usual nude lip colours.
K-drama actress Ha Ji-Won looks youthful and fresh with her tousled hair here. If you find your hair parting looking more and more obvious, switch up the parting to the other side to bring out the volume. Blow-dry with a round comb at the hair roots to make your hair look even more voluminous, like the 41-year-old birthday girl here.
Taiwanese-born singer Tzuyu is one-ninth of the K-pop girl group Twice, and it’s clear that the 20-year-old fits right into the K-beauty bandwagon. Like Tzuyu, tightline your eyes to define them, and use a light coral-pink eyeshadow to further bring out your eyes without looking OTT. Use a velvet matte pink lipstick to keep the look young and natural. It’s a great makeup look that you can wear every day, and to most occasions, from work to dinner with girlfriends.
The makeup on Girls Generation member Seohyun here is pretty much what we would expect from most Korean stars – perfect skin, well-groomed brows, a touch of blusher, and a coral lip to match. What stands out for us is how the 28-year-old’s worked the volume into her wispy, baby-hair-like side-parted fringe. Tong your fringe just a tad, like her, and the end of your hair, and you can get away with tousling up the rest of your mane to get a chic and feminine look.
Korean actress Yoo In-na most recent project was starring beside Korean actor Lee Dong Wook in Korean rom-com drama series Touch Your Heart (the two of them were hot favourites in their previous collaboration in Goblin). Here, the 37-year-old sports a perfect braid, and to keep it interesting, has her fringe styled in the old Hollywood wave style. We love everything about this look, and how the shade of her brows matches her hair perfectly.
Local celebrity and beauty and wellness guru Jacelyn Tay’s celebrating her 44th birthday this month. If you’ve ever doubted that eating healthily and leading a healthy lifestyle can keep you looking young and youthful, this picture should change your mind. So, yes, we’re saying that the beauty tip to cop from Jacelyn is to live and eat healthily for flawless, radiant skin.
Malaysian singer Fish Leong has recently stepped back into the spotlight after taking long breaks since she got married and had a kid (in 2010 and 2014 respectively). As with most Asian celebrities who are not necessarily experimental with their makeup looks, the 41-year-old doesn’t go for OTT looks. Besides a flawless complexion (here’s a reminder to perfect your foundation) and natural-looking pink lips, her smile’s what makes this picture a winner.
Jet black hair can look frumpy, but not on singer Karen Mok (who’s turning 49, mind you). Her curls add texture and volume, and it pairs perfectly with her smoky eye and metallic orangey-red lip (and outfit, of course) in this picture. Our takeaway: If you want to wear metallic lipstick, make sure your outfit is as loud and fun so it doesn’t look dated.
It’s tempting to keep to the old adage of keeping your makeup simple if you’re wearing attention-grabbing outfits. But pop star Joey Yung, who’s celebrating her 39th birthday, shows that you can wear a glittery/shimmer eyeshadow even if you’re in head-to-toe sequins. Just remember to wear falsies (go for the more natural-looking ones unless you’re performing on stage) to balance the strong eye look, add a bold, creamy lip and you’re done.
Hong Kong actress Cherrie Ying’s honey brown hair brings out the radiance in her complexion, and she looks so youthful you wouldn’t know she is turning 36 this year and has a six-year-old son with actor-singer Jordan Chan (OK, well, you would know the latter fact if you’ve followed Chinese reality show Where Are We Going Dad). Plus, besides taking years off your age, wispy, layered bangs like hers work well to balance a long(ish) face shape. With hair like that, you can keep the makeup simple with a semi-matte foundation and a touch of tinted lip balm or light pink lip gloss and still look work- or dinner-ready.
Taiwanese comedian and host Dee Hsu is not like many celebrities whose Instagram feed comprises only of glam shots from magazine and fashion shoots. The 41-year-old regularly peppers her feed with raw, unfiltered, makeup-free pictures of herself too. This picture above is a great lesson on how to do #makeupfreeselfies right –take the picture in soft, natural lighting and see your cheekbones pop, even without highlighters. Dab on a bit of lip balm or a touch of lip gloss to add to the healthy, youthful look.
When she debuted with Taiwanese pop group S.H.E, Ella Chen, who’s turning 38, was the tomboy of the group. Now, she’s every bit as feminine as her other two bandmates Selina and Hebe. If you want to have that cool girl vibe like Ella (which we’re pleased to see she’s retained from her S.H.E days), grow your hair out just a couple of inches below your collarbone and keep it a little wavy and mussed up so you look chic and effortless. Ella’s makeup is simple, even when she’s on air – well-groomed brows, simple eyeliner to define the eyes, and a creamy or slightly glossy lipstick is all you need to complete the look.
In case you don’t know her, mainland Chinese actress Dilireba is one of the most sought-after brand ambassadors in the country – just scroll through the 27-year-old’s Weibo account (she has over 63 million followers!) and you’ll find her posing with everything from perfumes to mobile phones. And it’s not difficult to see why the brands love her, with her fresh-faced look. Take a leaf from the prolific actress – enhance your features with a cat-eye liner and coral lips, and keep your brows well-groomed. If your skin’s as good as hers, you won’t even have to wear foundation or blusher.
It’s tough being in the spotlight as a celebrity. It’s even tougher to grow up in the spotlight, but Kim So-Hyun has done so gracefully. Here, the 20-year-old Korean actress, who made her debut when she was just nine, shows that the right shade of pink can make you look sophisticated without ageing you. We recommend choosing a deeper pink that leans towards a classic red – if you’re wearing red clothes, just go for a red-pink that’s two to three shades lighter.
