1. Egg yolks

Do not miss out on the goodness of egg yolks as they are rich in Vitamin D, an important nutrient that is absent in many other foods. As long as you do not eat more than two egg yolks a day, integrating a whole egg into your diet is an easy way to increase your daily protein intake.

2. Cheese

Cheese has a bad reputation for its high fat and calorie content, but not if you realise that this dairy delight is actually a nutrient-rich food. Cheese in its pure form can be enjoyed with fruits and in salads to promote healthy bones and teeth due to its calcium content. Warning: Cheesecake and pizza are not included, and of course, do consume cheese in moderation.

Peanut butter is not as terrible as some people might advocate. This delicious spread takes care of your daily protein, magnesium and potassium needs. Always keep a jar of peanut butter in your pantry because adding that to your breakfast will keep you satiated for longer. Be sure to pick a brand with no added sugar to enjoy the nutty and roasted taste of the nuts.

It’s time we pay homage to the humble cocoa bean for being there at our happiest and saddest moments. Chocolate, especially the dark chocolate variety, is ace at boosting your mood and focus when you are feeling dull or down. It is also chock-full of antioxidants. Do not opt for variants that are high in butter and sugar.

9. Pasta

Carbohydrates are an essential part of our diet because they keep us satisfied and provide fuel for our bodies. As long as you control your portion sizes, pasta can be a healthy foundation for your meals. Serve it with fibrous vegetables, lean meats and healthy homemade sauces. Extra points if you use whole grain pasta.
