I’m one of those people who has specific preferences: I like my white rice moist and not dry and burnt, unless it’s claypot rice then it has to be burnt. And I like my chilled water around 5-degree Celsius and not colder or warmer and I like hot beverages not boiling hot but hovers around 90-degree Celsius so I don’t have to wait to drink. A lot of demands, I know but I’m sure I’m not the only one around who has such “preferences”, as I’ll like to call them instead.
And oh, before you think that was the last of it, I also really dislike the slightly metallic tap-water taste. I know tap water in Singapore is perfectly safe for consumption but I would still prefer to boil or filter mine before I drink them. When my parents invested in a filter-water dispenser a few years ago before I got my own, I would bring a few huge empty water bottles just so I could fill them every time I visit them. Yes, that’s my level of commitment to filtered water.
But I didn’t find a solution to my temperature-nitpicking until I came across Sterra Water Purifier (currently at $1,599) and these are the four reasons why I can’t do without this game changer:
4, 25, 40 and 87-degree Celsius to be precise. How my heart sang when I learnt about these settings. And the machine wastes no time in dispensing the different temperatures without missing a beat. The four volume options are: 120, 250, 550ml and infinity (until you turn it off).
Sterra may be a young homegrown brand but it’s smart to work with established Korean manufacturer Ovio that has over 20 years of experience in the water dispensers and purifiers scene. Using a four-stage filtration system to filter out dust, rust and sand, it also absorbs and removes residual chlorine and disinfectant and uses ultra-small micropores of 0.01 microns to further eliminate contaminants and bacteria. That’s how I get my metallic-free delicious filtered water!
Using a UV sterilisation process that takes about 30 minutes (that you can interrupt if you want to quench your thirst in the meantime) to complete, there’s basically next-to-nothing maintenance to this water dispenser—perfect for tech noobs like me. You do need to change the filter of two modules every four to eight months and there’s a filter change reminder lamp on the machine to remind you. Each unit also comes with two years worth of filter supply, one-year motor warranty and three-year part warranty.
Available in chromium grey and platinum white, it looks chic anywhere you put it in the house. Gone is the perception that filter-water dispenser has to be bulky and tacky-looking.
