For many of us, online shopping has become the norm, especially since we are staying home a lot more these days. One of our favourite apps to shop from? Taobao, of course! Not only are the choices aplenty and prices reasonable, but there is also a growing range of products that exhibit creativity.
Did you know that the mega e-commerce platform actually hosts an annual exhibition, called Taobao Maker Festival? It’s a yearly fair that brings together some of the up-and-coming young creators on Taobao who put their best and most innovative products on display.
This year’s edition, themed ‘The Lost Treasure’, will be taking place from July 17 to 25 in Shanghai. It features a large-scale scavenger hunt with clues and puzzles spread across multiple zones in a 30,000-square-metre expo, for visitors to explore the unique concepts of each participating merchant in an interactive setting. Over 100 Taobao merchants will feature their novel innovations at the event, meaning heaps of new creators to have your eye on, and products to check out.
Here’s a peek at some of the most ingenious, out-of-this-world creations at Taobao Maker Festival 2021. You know, the ones that made us go, “Wow!” Keep scrolling to find out.
You’ve probably heard this: Drinking enough water daily, among other things, is crucial for good health and skin. In the skincare world, hyaluronic acid is well known for being a soothing and hydrating powerhouse.
Now, imagine both water and hyaluronic acid being combined to make a skin-loving drink that supports a healthy complexion from within. It’s now a reality, thanks to WHATER, which has developed drinking water with added hyaluronic acid — a first in China, paving the way for hyaluronic acid to be used in edible products.
Weight watchers and the health-conscious crowd will be glad to know that this hyaluronic acid-infused drinking water doesn’t contain sugar. Even with the addition of hyaluronic acid, the drink remains a zero-calorie beverage.
With this supercharged water, we’ll have no problems consuming eight glasses of water every day.
For most of us, burgers aren’t on our list of healthy food. But a new burger is set to change that. Enter Bao Ji Du Jiao Shou’s new, low-calorie konjac burger.
Launched at the Taobao Maker Festival, these burger buns are the highlight. Why? Well, these buns are made of konjac, a plant with an edible corm, and boast a unique and eye-catching transparent appearance.
Intrigued? Their burger patty is also an instant chicken breast product that can be kept at room temperature, and the entire burger contains just 4.18kcal!
To stay healthy, we need to keep our bodies in shape. The same can be said for our beloved pets too. If the long hours of working from home are keeping you from taking your dog outdoors for walks or play time, fret not.
Consider getting the Yesoul pet treadmill for your fur kid. Designed with pets’ health in mind, the exercise equipment boasts high-tech and user-friendly features such as an automatic feeding mode to encourage your pet pooch to get moving. There’s also a remote control function and smart sensor feature to keep your fur friend’s safety in check.

In recent years, sustainability has become a hot-button issue. No matter which part of the sustainability ladder each of us is at, we can all agree that after “reduce” (which refers to reducing consumption), “reuse” is the next environmentally friendly step to take. One big contributor to waste? Electronics.
Chen Xingyi, owner of the Find Fun Creations store on Taobao, aims to upcycle disassembled electronics by turning them into artwork.
Under his clever hands and creative mind, Chen repurposes his customers’ pre-loved items — from wallets to laptop and mobile phone parts — to create meaningful art pieces that are worth keeping for decades to come.

Gone are the days when timepieces are solely for telling time. These days, watches can be alluring masterpieces and serve as reminders of our heritage too.
Case in point: Watch brand Yaosilk has made art part of our daily lives by introducing Suzhou embroidery, a traditional Chinese art, into mechanical watches. The result: A breathtakingly beautiful dial featuring intricate embroidery in different colours and patterns, such as scenic mountains and clouds.
Talk about traditional-meets-modern. This stylish and unique embroidered mechanical watch is set to be a conversation-starting piece wherever you go.

If flying cars seem like a scene only belonging in a sci-fi film, think again. Aerospace innovation company Xpeng Huitian has designed the Voyager X2 electric flying car, showcasing the model at this year’s Taobao Maker Festival.
Weighing 395kg, the Voyager X2 can accommodate two passengers. In June 2021, it also successfully launched its debut manned test flight. Meanwhile, the company is on the search for volunteers to try out the flying car — we can imagine eager automobile fans hyperventilating.
For the rest of us at Her World, we can’t wait to see flying cars becoming part of the new norm in Singapore.
