Foldable smartphones have been enjoying a surge of popularity in recent years, and arguably, it’s Samsung’s Galaxy Z line that’s leading the pack. After their first foldable smartphone release in 2019, the Korean tech giant has launched a slew of improved designs since, with each one better than the next. And now, the latest generation of Samsung’s foldable smartphones have arrived, as unveiled at the brand’s Galaxy Unpacked event in New York City.

“We’ve successfully transformed this category from a radical project to a mainstream device lineup enjoyed by millions worldwide,” notes TM Roh, president and head of mobile experience business at Samsung Electronics.

Besides the new lineup of foldable smartphones, Samsung has also announced new smartwatches and earbuds. Here, we highlight everything you need to know about the new drops.

At first glance, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 looks almost identical to its predecessor, the Z Flip3. Rather than a radical design change for the clamshell-style phone, Samsung has instead focused on small but meaningful upgrades, such as a larger battery at 3,700mAh, upgraded camera hardware, and an improved ultra-thin glass display (still at 6.7 inches with a 120Hz variable refresh rate) that’s 45 percent stronger.

The smartphone also boasts a slimmer hinge, straightened edges, contrasting hazed back glass and glossy metal frames, as well as an updated chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 (paired with 8GB of RAM). A 65 percent brighter pixel sensor allows users to better capture images, even in low light conditions.

The Z Flip4’s Cover Screen, a beloved feature that played its part in the popularity of the Z Flip3, has been further improved to allow its users to do more, from making calls to replying texts, all without opening the phone. Plus, users can also create their own Cover Screen with new clock designs and backgrounds in various formats such as images, GIFs and even video.

The Galaxy Z Flip4 is available in four different colours: graphite, pink gold, blue and Samsung’s signature Bora purple. Samsung has also launched a new bespoke edition, where users are able to choose and create their own personalised glass colours and frame options with up to 75 variations.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 starts at $1,398 for 128GB. For Galaxy Z Flip4 pre-orders on Amazon.sg, receive a Samsung e-voucher worth S$250, $120 off your purchase, plus an extra $100 Amazon.sg Gift Card for Citi Credit Card Holders.

Similar to the Flip4, the Z Fold4 has incremental design updates as compared to its predecessor. The updated 21.6:18 aspect ratio offers a slightly wider experience to the tablet-like display of the Z Fold4, while the external screen has a 23.1:9 format. Like the Z Flip4, the Z Fold4’s internal display is now 45 percent stronger than the previous generation.

The smartphone also features the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset with 12GB of RAM, starting with 256GB of storage and going all the way up to 1TB. The previous generation’s trio of 12-megapixel lens have been replaced with a 50MP rear wide camera, a 12-MP ultrawide camera and a 10-MP telephoto camera. The sensor is also 23 percent brighter, allowing users to better capture details in night shots.

The biggest difference is likely the weight. At 263g, the Z Fold4 is the lightest one yet – the Z Fold3 weighs 271g in comparison. A heavy phone nonetheless, but that’s to be expected for a phone that doubles as a tablet.

Other updates include the taskbar, which has been moved from the side to the bottom of the screen. The Flex mode also has a new touchpad feature, which offers a cursor that can be dragged around the top half of the screen like a laptop.

The Galaxy Z Fold4 comes in four colours: graygreen, phantom black, beige, and burgundy, an exclusive colour only available for purchase on Samsung's website.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 starts at $2,398 for 256GB. For Galaxy Z Fold4 pre-orders on Amazon.sg, receive a Samsung e-voucher worth S$300, plus $150 off your purchase plus extra $100 Amazon.sg Gift Card for Citi Credit Card Holders.

Alongside the two new foldable smartphones, Samsung has also revealed its latest Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro. Similar to the phones, most of the updates to the smartwatches are focused on software refinement. The Watch 5 comes with a battery that’s 13 percent larger than the previous version, offering up to 40 hours of battery life. The Watch 5 Pro, on the other hand, is 60 percent stronger than the Watch 4, with up to 80 hours of battery life.

With an increased surface area and more direct contact with your wrist, smartwatches are designed for holistic health. Samsung’s bioactive sensor, found in both watches, delivers readings such as heart rate, blood oxygen level and even stress levels. A body composition measurement tool tailors experiences such as personalised workouts and tracking progress for its user. The smartwatches are also able to monitor stages of sleep, along with snore detection and blood oxygen levels.

Both smartwatches also feature a Sapphire Crystal display, which offers a 60 percent harder outer layer. For those that love the outdoors, turn to the Pro. Besides a durable titanium casing that protects the display with a protruded bezel design as well as an all-new D-Buckle Sport Band that offers rugged durability, the Pro is also outfitted with GPX, a first for a Galaxy watch.

The Watch 5 comes in two sizes: a 40mm version is available in graphite, pink gold and silver, while the 44mm version comes in graphite, sapphire and silver. The Watch 5 Pro is only available with a 45mm display, and comes in either black or grey titanium.

The Galaxy Watch 5 40mm version is priced at S$448 (Bluetooth) and S$548 (LTE); the 44mm version is priced at S$498 (Bluetooth) and S$598 (LTE). The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is priced at S$698 (Bluetooth) and S$798 (LTE).

Rounding up the new lineup is the Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro. The successor to the Galaxy Buds Pro released in 2021, the updated true wireless earbuds boast active noise cancellation (ANC), water resistance, and voice control.

They also support 24-bit high-resolution audio playback for high-dynamic range listening, as well as Samsung's new SSC HiFi codec, which allows better audio quality when you’re on apps that can play high-resolution music.

The new design is more compact, measuring 15 percent smaller than the previous generation, with a secure fit that is engineered to prevent rotation. The Galaxy Buds2 Pro also ditches the glossy, plastic finish of its predecessor. Instead, the earbuds and their accompanying cases are now available in a smooth, matte finish that’s sleek to touch.

They come in three colours: graphite, white and Samsung's signature Bora Purple.

The GalaxyBuds2 Pro is priced at S$328.
