The month of October is finally here. While some of us are still recovering from the race weekend, we’re thrilled to share that there are more events that are coming up this month. This includes celebrations for Oktoberfest, and not to mention, Halloween.
For the latter, the Museum of Ice Cream has transformed its space to celebrate Halloween, of which you can look forward to loads of sweet treats (and tricks) from the 1st to 30th of October.
But if family-friendly activities are not what you’re looking out for, then you’ll be glad to know that the Oktoberfest celebrations in Singapore are also well underway. Transport yourself to Bavaria, and indulge in a rousing two-part weekend festival at the scenic Alkaff Mansion where you’ll find a day pop-up market for you and your furry companions. Of course, no Oktoberfest celebration is complete without some beer and at the Alkaff Mansion, rest assured that you’ll be enjoying loads of them while trying your hands at the beer-themed games and beer-drinking challenges.
There are loads of activities that are lined up for you, and if you’re looking to spice up your weekend plans with your family or friends, keep on scrolling.
Halloween is right around the corner! This year, Museum of Ice Cream is celebrating the occasion with a spook-tacular experience from the 1st to 30th of October, where you can actually go trick-or-treating while you explore each room. Here, be sure to look out for their candy cauldrons and fill up your bags will cool confections at the different installations while completing some tricks.
As part of the extravaganza, you can also expect an unlimited flow of desserts, a seasonal menu over at the Cafe & Bar and an uncanny adventure full of interactive installations. But beware – at some stations, you’ll be given the option to choose between two different ice cream flavours, of which one of these flavours will come as an unexpected surprise.
What’s more, you can get your fortune read by the mysterious ice cream fortune teller, so be sure to keep a lookout for her as she has set up camp at one of the corners of the museum.
Once you’re done exploring the installations, we recommend that you sit back, relax and enjoy a few drinks over at the Cafe & Bar. Some of the drinks from the specially curated Halloween menu that will be available during the event, include The Haunted Milkshake, Witch’s Brew Cocktail, and Graveyard Sundae.

Japanese Omakase restaurant, Kakushin, recently opened its doors in September. Located at Scott’s Square, the new restaurant is anchored by an Omakase concept that is guided by a singular philosophy – to illuminate the best of seasonal produce from Japan with imaginative storytelling and inspired exploration.
Helmed by Chef Chan, who brings with him decades of experience from acclaimed Japanese restaurants including Tatsu Sushi at Chijmes and Akashi, you can expect dishes like the Awabi served with liver sauce, Uni toast, topped with Nukazuke Moro-kyuri and an Oba Chimichurri, and of course, a wide selection of Nigiri Sushi that is all handmade to perfection. Kakushin’s ingredients are also carefully handpicked and flown directly from well-known markets including Toyosu Market and they also bring in produce from the most elusive of speciality farms in Japan too.
Kakushin is located at #02-03, Scotts Square, 6 Scotts Road, Singapore 228209
Love all things yakiniku but hate the smell that lingers on your clothes after? Well, you’ll be glad to know that you won’t have to worry about that over at this restaurant that has just opened up at Boat Quay. Setting new standards in modern yakiniku dining, 59 Hutong Yakiniku offers a wide selection of premium and exclusive cuts of meats and seafood from Japan, US and Australia. But what makes this place stands out from the rest, aside from its mouthwatering spread, is that they also have its own team of passionate and friendly grill experts that will help you cook your meal to perfection. Equipped with some of the best ventilation systems, the smoke from the grill is also directed away from you, so you don’t have to worry about the smell lingering in your hair or clothes after your meal.
Some of our favourite must-try dishes from them include the raw crab roe in crab shell (which is best eaten with some rice), cuttlefish sausage and the US Prime Dallas cube.

Aside from Halloween, the month of October is also the month for guzzling beers and Bavarian fare. Happening from 3 to 23 October 2022, celebrate all things German at 1-Group’s Oktoberfest special. To start off, swing by the Alkaff Mansion on the weekends to check out the Day Pop-Up Market where you’ll find a lively marketplace with a selection of local brands fit for you and your furry friends. Try your hands at the games over at the pop-up and enjoy some non-alcoholic beverages while you’re at it or opt for family-friendly activities like the Liquid Flow Bear Painting Bear Bricks Painting Activity by L’Atelier Du Reve.
At night, the place transforms into a night festival, in which you can indulge in some delicious grub from food trucks while grooving to the live performances and DJs that will be performing throughout the night. If you’re going with your group of friends, you’ll be glad to know that there will also be beer-themed games and beer-drinking challenges as well, with prizes to be won like an Erdinger Tavern Tour in Singapore, and a trip for two to Germany courtesy of APB that are up for grabs!
