There are so many reasons why you’d want to spend your weekend at home binge-watching your favourite shows this weekend — from the premiere of the new season of Stranger Things to the new Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+. However, if you’re still looking to make plans with your friends, family or partner, there are loads of activities for you to choose from that are happening this weekend. From Tiong Bahru Bakery’s new pop-up at Raffles City (psst, we heard they’re giving out free croissants and coffee), to the highly raved EXERGAME4D experience over at YMCA, ahead, we have sussed out some things you can do over the weekend.

Get free croissants and coffee at Tiong Bahru Bakery’s biggest takeaway pop-up at Raffles City
image

In celebration of its ten year anniversary, Tiong Bahru Bakery (TBB) will be rolling out its biggest takeaway the island has ever seen this weekend. Held from 27 May to 12 June over at Raffles City, here, you can expect to see a giant-sized pop-up installation that’s in the shape of TBB’s takeaway box and coffee cups — which are essentially the two things the brand is known for!

Of course, to ring in the celebrations, TBB will also be treating guests to its signature croissants and cold brew coffee as well — which will be given out at various times of the day, be it for breakfast, lunch or dinner (while stocks last).

Aside from that, you can look forward to the list of interactive activities that will be held at the pop-up, as well as TBB’s very own optical illusion exhibit where you can snap photos of you and your friends while you indulge in your favourite croissant.

The Tiong Bahru Bakery pop-up is located outside of Raffles City Shopping Centre, facing Stamford Rd.

Dine with the dinosaurs at Universal Studios Singapore
image

Universal Studios Singapore has upped the ante with a new and immersive dining experience like no other. Featuring a Jurassic World-themed feast ($248/per adult, $188/per child), special effects and prehistoric meet-and-greets, this new multi-sensory dining experience was designed in celebration of the release of the highly anticipated Jurassic World Dominion that will debut in cinemas worldwide on 10 June.

Now as for the experience, it will be held at the Discovery Food Court in Universal Studios Singapore itself, right by the Jurassic Park attractions. Upon entering the food court, guests will be greeted by Dr. Rodney, who will show them a “newly hatched Velociraptor egg”. The dining experience, or shall we say, adventure, is 2.5 hours long and will also see life-size dinosaur appearances, enhanced by a combination of technical effects and storytelling.

But what’s on the menu you ask? Well, the four-course dinner will be themed around the diets of the dinosaurs from Jurassic World Dominion. Think — fall-off-the-bone BBQ pork ribs, succulent beef skewers and an amber dessert made of lemongrass osmanthus jelly. Of course, each course will also be served in style and will be accompanied by dramatic lighting, projection and music to evoke the true essence of Jurassic Park itself.

Jurassic World Dominion Dining Adventure will be held at the Discovery Food Court in Universal Studios Singapore only on select dates from May to August from 6.30pm to 9.00pm. (The dining adventure also includes one-day ticket to Universal Studios Singapore, Universal Express Unlimited Pass, meet-and-greets, four course dinner with free flow drinks) Universal Studios Singapore is located at 8 Sentosa Gateway, 098269.

Exercise and play at Singapore’s first 4D tech-fueled exercise gaming
image

Looking for that extra push when you’re working out? Or are you tired of your same old routine? Whatever the case is, this new 4D tech-fueled exercise gaming concept is about to change your mind about fitness.

For the unacquainted, exergaming is defined as technology-driven physical activities, such as video gameplay, that require participants to be physically active or exercise in order to play the game. And that’s what Exergame4D is offering. Marketed by Ascend Fitness Singapore in partnership with KILSA Global, the new concept was first introduced in Korea. Now, with an increased interest in tech and more developments in the sports and wellness spectrum, activities like Exergame4D have started to garner more interest from others, as it enables them to conduct group exercises in an interactive digital setting.

With over 72 programmes to choose from, here, you can choose your difficulty level which will range from beginner to advanced level. The programmes are also different in the sense that it targets different parts of your body (like your core, glutes, legs, and upper body), and can range from HIIT to strength training.

More importantly, this is great especially if you always feel conscious in the gym because this time you’ll be working out in the dark, and there’s also a point-based system that will keep track of the calories you’ve burned during your session to keep you motivated as you workout. Of course, it’s also a great weekend activity to try with your friends and family too!

Exergame4D is located at Ascend Fitness, Basement 1, 1 Orchard Rd, YMCA, Singapore 238824

Soak in some art and culture at National Gallery Singapore's latest exhibition — Ever Present: First Peoples Art of Australia
image

If getting lost in the long meandering hallways of a museum sounds like your idea of a good time, then you’ll be in for a treat. From 27 May 2022 to 25 September 2022, go on an art trail at National Gallery Singapore with their latest exhibition — Ever Present: First Peoples Art of Australia. The largest exhibition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, the exhibition showcases over 170 artworks drawn from the collections of the National Gallery of Australia and The Wesfarmers Collection of Australian Art, including many of their most significant artworks.

These visually captivating works produced by over 150 Aboriginal and  Torres Islander artists highlight the diversity of First Peoples art; with works as far back as 1890 until the present, ranging from paintings, video installations, bark paintings, to sculptures and cutting-edge contemporary art.

The exhibition celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, while also grappling with Australia’s complex histories. These works challenge stereotypes about First Nations people and what defines their  art, and also illuminates their historical links with Southeast Asia, through works  highlighting the regions’ trading encounters by sea, and recent artistic exchanges in batik.

Visitors interested in diving deeper into the histories and culture of First Nations can also attend art historical lectures, curator talks, artist dialogues and curator tours throughout the exhibition’s duration. Visitors can also look forward to performances, including Painting the Dance by Mariaa Randall and Henrietta Baird, and a special edition of the Gallery’s Resonates with Residency programme, featuring Singapore-based artist, Syafiq Halid.

Visitors may also learn more about Ever Present through its related programmes via the Art Journeys function at https://web.nationalgallery.sg/ or through the Gallery’s new interactive Activity Cube and Digital Self-Service Kiosks.

Ever Present: First Peoples Art of Australia will run from 27 May 2022 to 25 September 2022 at Singtel Special Exhibition Gallery, City Hall Chamber and UOB Southeast Asia Gallery at National Gallery Singapore 1 St Andrew’s Rd, #01 – 01, Singapore 178957.
