It’s time to give yourself a break! And while we’re thrilled to celebrate the big F1 event next week, we’ve decided to round up a few things to do to occupy yourselves this weekend. Whether you’re visiting Kampong Gelam for their 10-day GLAMboyant event or prefer indulging in a gastronomic culinary experience at the One&Only Desaru Coast, ahead, we’ve rounded up some of the activities that you can do this weekend with your loved ones.
For one night only, Singapore’s most decorated chef Julien Royer joins hands with fellow culinary luminary Andrew Walsh at the One&Only Desaru Coast. Walsh – the chef-owner of Michelin-starred Cure, Butcher Boy and Catfish – also leads the culinary concept at One&Only’s resident beach club, Ember. Here, he brings his distinctive Irish influence to the cuisine.
To further up the ante, he is leading a series of collaborative experiences called Emer Curates. For the inaugural edition, he and Royer will be presenting their all-time hits, including the Hand Dived Scallop ‘Au Naturel’ and Yuzu T’art from Royer’s Claudine restaurant, as well as Walsh’s Wagyu Beef Rossini.
The one-night-only culinary event is taking place on Saturday 24th September at One&Only Desaru Coast.
The long-awaited F1 weekend is almost here and to kick things off, Kampong Gelam is set to activate all of its key districts with its 10-day GLAMboyant that will be happening from 23 September to 2 October. Some of the activities that you can look forward to include the Fusion Foodyard where you can dig into delicious grub at some of the 15 grab-and-go food stalls which will see vendors like The Satayman, Yok_Makanz and Picanhas’.
You can also swing by the Sultan Gate Park to check out the BMX Street Battle 2022 or catch your favourite films such as Jumanji The Next Level and The Matrix, as well as kid-friendly flicks like The Karate Kid and Encanto. What’s more, there will also be activities for art fanatics of which you can attend Grafitti Crash Course Workshops led by professional graffiti artists from The Blackbook Studio.
GLAMboyant – Kampong Gelam GPSS 2022 is located at Kampong Gelam.
Singapore Art Museum (SAM) has just unveiled its latest collection show, titled ‘Can Everybody See My Screen?‘ which explores how our physical bodies engage, connect and negotiate with technology, using the screen as a space where relationships are forged. Here, the exhibition invites guests to reflect on how our understanding of kinship, self-identification, surveillance and love has shifted with the rise and changes in digital technologies over the last two decades.
The exhibition will run from 9 September to 11 December 2022 at SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark, Gallery 2.
Reimagined by the gin makers, Hendrick’s very own absinthe has finally reached our shores. Unlike most absinthe, this particular spirit is unexpectedly floral and refreshingly approachable. And while the bottle is not available for sale to the public, you can still find it in specially curated cocktails at some of the 20 bars across Singapore from 19 September to 31 October 2022.
For starters, head on over to Tess Bar & Kitchen to try the Irezuminthe cocktail, which is inspired by the traditional Japanese style of tattooing. The cocktail combines Hendrick’s Absinthe, Hendrick’s Neptunia, Kombu Syrup, Ume Water, as well as three other ingredients — and it’s perfect for those who prefer something that’s smooth and savoury.
Alternatively, you can also swing by the Writers Bar to try ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’ cocktail. Inspired by Oscar Wilde, the drink sees absinthe’s underserved bad reputation as a portrait, much like in the narrative, only in reverse. While many deem absinthe with some negative connotations as a spirit, the Writers Bar aims to present a more approachable and delicious combination with this aesthetically pleasing absinthe-based cocktail.
Lastly, the folks at Nutmeg & Clove also drew inspiration from Oscar Wilde to create a unique cocktail, called ‘After All, Is It Not Green?’ that boasts an elegant balance of herbs and spices, that’s perfectly smooth and easy to drink on its own.
Speaking of drinks, The Bar at 15 Stamford has also just unveiled its latest bar menu that will take guests on a transoceanic journey across the Austronesian Islands. With over 16 expertly crafted cocktails to choose from, the new menu is divided into two sections: Signature Cocktails and Austronesian Islands. Some of the cocktails to try to include the Ilha Formosa 1542 which was inspired by the first Austronesians and makes use of Tie Guan Yin mixed with cognac, gin and dry vermouth.
However, if you do prefer the bar’s signature cocktails, we recommend going for the Plantation 1840 for a strong yet refreshing drink made with a blend of Black Tears Rum, sweet vermouth, pineapple juice, sugarcane juice syrup, lemon juice and fresh mint.
Of course, there are a lot of options for you to choose from but if you’re a rum lover, then you’ll be glad to know that the drinking menu also features one of Singapore’s most extensive rum selections, with over 200 rums to explore!
