Check out Singapore Art Museum (SAM) at Tanjong Pagar Distripark's latest exhibits
image

Following Singapore Art Museum (SAM) at Tanjong Pagar Distripark’s official opening in January this year, SAM’s new venue will be home to a suite of exhibitions that appeal to audiences of all ages and interests from May through September, kicking off with the opening of Superfluous Things: Paper followed by the third and final presentation of the multi-sited exhibition titled Lonely Vectors. SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark will also be home to Epigram Coffee Bookshop, operated by independent local publisher Epigram Bookshop.

Kicking off the new wave of exhibitions from 28 May to 14 August is Superfluous Things: Paper, which explores the role of paper in today’s world as a carrier of ideas. Five vibrant works presented by nine contemporary artists, including Cheryl Teo, Nabilah Said, Jumaadi, Li Hongbo, PHUNK and Keiichi Tanaami, transforms paper into objects of visual feast and emotional resonance, with 80% of the material used in the exhibition being paper-based. Aimed at the young and the young-at-heart, The Engine Room will see an extension of the exhibition, featuring interactive activities to spark imagination and curiosity.

From 3 June, the global economy comes into focus with the third presentation of Lonely Vectors, an exhibition that draws attention to the flow of bodies and labour that characterises our world. Taking its cue from the location of SAM’s space at a historic port, the exhibition looks at the different ways we connect to the world through an examination of the global economy and its circulation of goods and commodities, as well as other terrestrial flows such as the bodies and histories that have been set adrift by a world in motion. Artworks by the likes of Ho Tzu Nyen, P7:1SMA, Ho Rui An and more explore the themes of Choreographies of Labour, More-than-Human Ecologies, and Heatmaps and Hotzones.
