Be it watching a film classic under the stars, or a blockbuster with the sunset in the background, there’s just something about an alfresco movie spot that just hits different. Whether you’re up for lounging in a recliner by the waters, or prefer the comfort of your own car, here are all the outdoor cinemas to check out.
After a three-year hiatus, open-air cinema Films at the Fort, presented by wine brand
Casillero del Diablo, is back and runs from Aug 10 to 21, 2022. Helmed by the creators of Hendrick’s Sunset Cinema, it takes place at the amphitheatre of Fort Canning Park, and marks its 8th birthday this year.
Catch award-winning new releases, festival hits, and classics, while you dine picnic-style on a menu of delicious options from The Providore, which includes dinner, dessert, and snack menus. And if you’re in the mood for booze, there’s a fully stocked bar at the event, with fine wines, beer, and cider.

For a kid-friendly line-up, make your way to Sentosa’s Southside, where you can catch your favourite show with the sea breeze in your hair.
On selected weekends, and public holidays from now till Sept 23, 2022, there’ll be a selection of PG-rated classics and blockbusters that include Pirates of the Carribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Gone In Sixty Seconds, and The Transporter.
And best of all — it’s free. Entry, however, is limited to 400 persons, on a first-come-first-serve basis. You won’t be able to bring your own food, though there’ll be bites available from eateries at Southside. Picnic mats and folding chairs (see website for dimensions) are allowed.

Positioned at Keppel Bay, this open-air experience will have you settling down into comfy recliners and watching a movie with a gorgeous sunset and glittering waters in the backdrop. And for a better audio experience (no having to put up with people talking or munching on popcorn), you get to tune in via your earphones and the Cinewav app, while watching the show on the big screen.
What you can catch from now till Aug 27 (Sat): Singaporean-Japanese drama film Jimami Tofu, The Martian, Jumanji : Welcome to the Jungle, and Little Women.

If you prefer to cosy up in the air-conditioned comfort of your car, check out the drive-in movie screenings at Downtown East’s Begonia Open Air Carpark.
Next up on July 30, 2022 (7.30pm) is comedy-action flick Free Guy (2021), which stars Ryan Reynolds as a bank teller who realises that he’s actually a “non-playing character” (NPC) inside a brutal, open-world video game.
Tickets are at $35 per car, and includes munchies like two B Golden Egg Truffle Mayo Croissants and to drinks from Buey Tahan See-Food. Add-ons are available.
