You’ve reached a point where you’ve sworn off dating apps and blind dates – only because no one ever hits you up for a second date. But are you simply someone with rotten luck when it comes to dating?
As far as dating etiquette is concerned, there are few basic rules we have to follow (if you’re looking for something serious). So we enlisted the help of Zoie Lim, Operations Lead and Matchmaker at Gai Gai, a local dating service, to suss out why some of us aren’t getting past the first date.
“Sometimes going too deep into heavy topics like religion or politics on the first date can scare off the opposite party,” she explains. “And if you don’t know what to say, you can always seek professional help.”
On top of scoring the second date, there’s still a difference between getting a partner and getting hitched. Sometimes, long relationships end up fizzling out because there wasn’t enough communication between the couple. “Rejection is difficult for either parties. Don’t let the situation drag on for too long,” warns Zoie. “Have a conversation and let him down easy, explain what didn’t work, give him feedback if necessary, and consider if you can remain friends or not.”
