When it comes to welcoming the Chinese new year, Lo Hei is one activity to never skip out on

As we prepare to usher in the year of the Tiger, there is no better way to manifest some good fortune than to lo hei (tossing up of good fortune) with loved ones. A key fixture in every reunion dinner, it’s understandable to want to spice things up a bit with gorgeous Yusheng platters that promise more than supermarket-bought ones.

For the upcoming Chinese New Year, we have collated a list of seven at all price points. From DIY Yu Sheng to ones with black caviar and Canadian lobsters, these options will look delightful on your dining table come late January.

Min Jiang’s Trio of Prosperity Blessings ‘Lo Hei’ is a seafood lover’s dream; enjoy a sumptuous Yusheng platter with lobster, smoked Norwegian salmon, and abalone. Along with conventional ingredients such as white radish and carrot, you will also find pea shoots, arugula, and Romaine lettuce in the mix.

In place of a normal sauce is a delightful mix of plum sauce, strawberry sauce, calamansi juice, lemongrass, ginger flower, and chilli padi. Decorated with edible flowers and deep-fried yam strips, don’t forget about the usual peanuts and crackers.

Available from 7 January 2022 to 15 February 2022. Priced at $238++ per large portion for dine-in, and $254.66 for takeaway. A hand-drawn tiger will be available for dine-in customers. Located at Goodwood Park Hotel, 22 Scotts Road, Singapore 228221. Order from their website for takeaways.

Min Jiang at Dempsey is also offering an Auspicious Abundance ‘Lo Hei’ features tiger prawns, an apt ingredient to usher in the year of the tiger. With prawns and abalone delicately arranged as a firework by the side, a generous serving of deep-fried shredded sweet potato tops the rest of the ingredients.

Before lo hei-ing, deep-fried spring rolls and more sweet potato shreds will be added. Savour the dressing made of plum sauce, kumquat juice, strawberry sauce, ginger flowers, and sesame oil.

Greenwood Fish Market

When we think of Yusheng, we think about a standardised set to toss. However, Greenwood Fish Market is debuting their “Built-Your-Own” Yusheng. Order their standard Salmon Yusheng set ($88 for dine-ins, $98 for takeaways) and choose from a wide variety of add-ons to cater it to your tastes. Such add-ons focus on seafood, with popular choices such as Hokkaido scallops, swordfish belly, and bluefin tuna (Otoro, Chu Toro, and Akame).

These additional ingredients are priced from $15 onwards. Of course, their usual plum sauce will be waiting for you to drizzle all over your lucky platter.

Summer Pavilion

If you’re in the area, drop by Summer Pavilion at Ritz Carlton to enjoy a Yusheng with a twist. From 17 January 2022 to 15 February 2022, enjoy their Yusheng with Canadian lobsters and black caviar carefully plated on the side. Add a sprinkle of lime juice before lo-ing for an enhanced flavour.

The small portion serves four persons, while the large portion can serve up to eight persons.

Priced at $138++ per small portion and $276++ per large portion. Located at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, 7 Raffles Avenue, Singapore 039799.

When it comes to authentic Cantonese cuisine, you can never leave out Hai Tien Lo. This upcoming lunar new year, they are offering four different types of Yusheng at different price points for you to welcome abundance into your life. The four platters are:

  • Vitality Yu Sheng with Lobster and Smoked Salmon ($148++ for a small portion, $218++ for a large portion)
  • Fortune Yu Sheng with Classic Whole Abalone, Smoked Salmon and Jellyfish ($118++ for a small portion, $148 for a large potion)
  • Double Blessings Yu Sheng with Smoked Salmon and Crispy Silver Fish ($88++ for a small portion, $138++ for a large portion)
  • Nutritious Prosperity Vegetarian Yu Sheng with Mock Abalone and Kelp ($68 ++ for a small portion, $88++ for a large portion)

On top of that, the platters are decorated with red chocolate with gold Chinese characters to usher in good fortune into the new year.

Neo Garden has a seemingly endless lineup of Yusheng on its menu, with two new additions debuting this year. The first is their Golden Tiger Yusheng ($179.76++) with the ingredients arranged to create a cute tiger with paws. The other one is the Opulence Teochew Yusheng ($104.86++), which boasts a large assortment of vegetables over salmon slices, starfruit, coriander, and homemade dressing.

You have the option to add on other ingredients such as smoked salmon, pacific clam, fortune crabstick, and more at various prices per plate.

Neo Garden Catering
Din Tai Fung

Din Tai Fung is one of most of us’ go-to Chinese restaurant chains even when it’s not the Chinese New Year season. This CNY from 18 January 2022 to 15 February 2022, they will be serving their Prosperity Smoked Salmon Yusheng in both ‘Classic’ and ‘Vegetarian’. For add-ons, you can opt for fried salmon skin ($4.80++), additional smoked salmon strips ($9.80++), and additional crispy yam strips ($3.80++).

They have two promotions ongoing for this period; OCBC cardmembers can enjoy 10% off the Prosperity Smoked Salmon Yusheng, and you will receive a complimentary Hong Bao set (eight pieces) with a minimum of $68 spent for dine-in.

‘Classic’ is priced at $48.80++ while ‘Vegetarian’ is priced at $39.80++. Available for both dine-in and takeaway. Located across Singapore.
