7 fuss-free food offerings you can get delivered to your home

Used to frequent Jumbo Seafood or Ippudo? Now, you can get food from your favourite restaurants delivered instead

As diners shy away from eating out and more people are working from home during the Covid-19 outbreak, many businesses are offering delivery and takeaway options.

Some have come up with chic bento sets, others have curated smaller menus or family party packs for groups of no more than six people.

We round up seven of these fuss-free offerings.

1. M Hotel Singapore

What: Dine outdoors or take away M Hotel Singapore’s new bento boxes offering a variety of cuisines.

The classic Japanese bento ($24) comes with teriyaki salmon, tempura California maki and breaded torpedo prawns.

For a local spin, go for the sweet and sour pork bento ($22), which includes mango and lychee pork, seasonal vegetables in oyster sauce and char siew fried rice.

Spice up your meal with the biryani chicken bento ($20), which has chicken and potato curry biryani and mango chutney.

Vegetarians can go for the penne pasta bento ($19), served with garden vegetables and Cajun spiced potato wedges.

Each set comes with complimentary soup and dessert of the day. Sweeten the deal by topping up $8 for a glass of house wine or beer.

2. Monga

What: Chicken lovers get the best of both worlds with chicken rice boxes ($6.90 each), where Taiwanese crispy fried chicken (read also “Korean Fried Chicken Has Crash Landed On Us, Again!“) is paired with Hainanese chicken rice. The boxes are exclusive to Monga Singapore’s latest 25-seat outlet at SingPost Centre.

Alternatively, for the same price, you can order Monga nuggets (six pieces) to go with the fragrant rice. Sets include achar and chilli sauce.

Monga also has launched party packs, perfect for dining at home. The family combo ($24.90) includes six pieces of Monga Crispy Chicken, sweet potato fries and six pieces of nuggets.

Monga’s Ion Orchard and Jem outlets are also now on delivery platforms Foodpanda and GrabFood.

3. Jumbo Group

What: You can now get a taste of the dishes by restaurant chain Jumbo Seafood at home through its bento sets (from $10.80, available till 6.30pm daily).

Mains include sliced salmon with chef’s special spicy sauce; deep-fried sliced salmon with Nonya sauce; and deshelled prawns stir-fried with chilli crab sauce. The sets come with vegetables and a choice of egg fried rice or steamed rice.

Bentos (from $10.80, available till 6.30pm daily) from Jumbo Group’s restaurants Zui Yu Xuan Teochew Cuisine and Chui Huay Lim Teochew Cuisine are also available.

Highlights include the pan-fried Kurobuta pork cutlet; braised duck with beancurd; and de-shelled prawn stewed with fresh mushrooms. The sets include vegetables such as kai lan or broccoli, as well as a choice of fried rice with preserved olive leaves or steamed rice.

Get 10 per cent off the bento sets if you choose self-collection (from noon to 2.15pm, till May 31)

4. Tampines Food Co

What: You may be familiar with their blogs, now try their food. Four local food bloggers have launched their own virtual restaurant brands last month in partnership with co-kitchen space Tampines Food Co.

Ms Maureen Ow, founder of food blog Miss Tam Chiak, offers a selection of Indian, Indonesian, Malay and Chinese dishes under her Chiak Local brand, including sets for up to four people. Under the Indian food section, the set for four ($58.50) includes three curries, assorted naan and gulab jamun.

Food artist Shirley Wong of Little Miss Bento dishes out bentos such as Japanese squid with teriyaki sauce ($15.40, above), grilled spicy mala chicken bowl ($12.90) and salmon baked rice ($12).

For halal-certified fare, traditional favourites such as ayam bakar and maggie goreng, as well as pizza and burgers, check out The Halal Food Blog’s menu. Ms Michelle Hon – known for her blog The Chill Mom – offers a family-friendly menu split into categories for dad, mum and the kids. Dishes include seafood linguine ($12), Thai-style crispy fish salad ($8) and cheeseburger ($9.90).

5. Violet Oon Singapore

What: Have a Peranakan feast at home with Violet Oon Singapore’s Petit Feasts menus, streamlined from the larger party tray options for a small gathering of four to six people ($125 to $165).

Highlights across the menus include beef rendang, chap chye, babi pongteh, ayam buah keluak and babi assam (tamarind pork). All sets include the signature dry laksa, as well as jasmine rice, atchara pickle, and sambal belacan.

When: Delivery available from Tuesdays to Sundays, order before 10.30am for lunch (delivery by 12.30pm) or by 4pm for dinner (delivery by 7pm)

6. Ippudo

What: Japanese ramen chain Ippudo’s recently launched new donburi bowls are available on Deliveroo and GrabFood.

Go for the chashu don ($9), with Ippudo’s sliced chashu on rice, or chicken karaage don ($9).

Also available on both delivery platforms are convenient combo meals priced from $21. Add $1 to get a kid’s ramen or a drink.

The three-person combo ($60) includes three ramen – either Shiromaru Motoaji or Akamaru Shinaji – as well as nine pieces each of gyoza and chicken karaage.

On Deliveroo only, you can order either the chicken or croquette bento ($12 each) and get a bottle of Japanese tea (green tea, barley or jasmine) for free.

7. Putien

What: Putien’s fuss-free set meals (from $13.70) are good for one-person dining .

They include the brand’s popular Fujian lor mee, Fujian Heng Hwa bee hoon as well as cabbage rice. The lor mee set also comprises shredded pork with sesame bun and an appetiser of pickled cabbage and mushroom beans.

The restaurant chain has also expanded on its delivery menu options. You can also buy its delicious Spice Mum Chilli Sauce as well as bee hoon and mee sua gift boxes to cook at home.
